Delay?

Dont worry, noone else know's either. It'll be along soon (the longer it takes, the more will be in it ), so be patient.

What if its taking so long becuase he decided to turn it into a grinding MMO where everytime you die you are given free money and the chat translates everything you say into leet speak?

heh...v.99a released! two months later v.99 b released, another month v.99b2 released! two years later v.99!"£ released! ^_^

You get stuff like that in open-source software and indy games all the game.  Current version of Wings3d is 0.98.32a.  Wouldn't surprise me or upset me in the least bit.

Oh Dear God NO!

Just wanted to chime in with my annoyance at the long delay.

The "it will be ready when it's ready and I'll love it" people can rationalize as much as they like, but the bottom line is that it's bad business and bad manners to not deliver on your promises. The mature and respectful thing for the M&B team to do would be to alter the text on the downloads page, and post a simple, short apology. They don't even have to explain the longer than usual delay if they don't want to. How many people are on the team now? "Can someone get some more coffee? And update that damn downloads page while they're at it?" Not hard. By not doing this they're building ill-will towards their product and their company... Why?!

BTW: A few weeks = multiple months only if you're a sleazy lawyer.

It's bad business to release a beta and expect people to pay for it. Saying "we release updates every few weeks" is not exactly a promise either, merely a statement of fact. They don't say "we will continue to release updates every few weeks".

Mind you, if people want to be pedantic, the statement "you can wait a few months for the full version" has been there since I bought it over a year ago, but I don't see anyone complaining that it hasn't made v1.00 yet!

Cmon Mount&blade is a good game and armagan is a good guy and im sure he tries his best, but we cant disagree with the fact that the silence which now exists is NOT the right thing to do, especially not in an indie game where the developer has earlier been in decent contact with the community, i cant figure out any reason why armagan couldnt jump in and shortly post what the situation is. This is very common in many other Free and small profit games that exist, so it isnt new to me. What i personally wait for the most is NOT the new version but the old Armagan we know that would post here, and when the next version arrives i get more happy if armagan would tell us why the update took so long to deliver than the update itself, THAT makes me happy and gives me HOPE in this great game's future.

Its not the case of if few weeks is a few months or that kind of thing, it is LONGER now than ever before by far and that makes people unsecure regardless of what the main page says. IF armagan wouldve told us that this version takes much longer to finish (which he kind of did) we would understand this better, but as we know you CANNOT know as a developer exactly when something is ready. This is why i really hope armagan would jump in and say a word or two about the situation CURRENTLY, it would make us all much more relaxed regardless of what it is.

I hope that made some sense im crap at making sentences.

I'm not irritated at the delay, but an official statement on the downloads page saying that there is a delay for this version's release would go a long way to keeping the ire people have at being "tricked" down.

Maybe it's close enough to being released (next version or whatever) now that Armagan doesn't need to bother posting a news update (although it would be nice) (hint hint)

The link below is a message Armagan posted back in June anout the next release, doesn't seem to have happened though.  In addition Armagan hasn't posted since 29th August, maybe he's away.

I understand people's frustrations about this, I've had the game now for just over a year and it has progressed from (I think) 0.4xx to 0.751.  I keep occupied with all of the great mods out there

As I understand it, there are several core engine changes which have been made since the new programmer was added, which undoubtedly will take some testing and working to get the kinks out. Still, I understand the frustration of some people. It has been a while without word from the devs here on the English boards.

You know, if it's bothering you that much you could try emailing or PM'ing him and asking if he'll explain the delay. Mind you, he hasn't logged in since the 6th, so there's no guarantee he'll see it.

Personally, given the time I'm expecting either radical alterations in the new release...

I mailed him about 2-3weeks ago, asked carefully what the situation is, tried not to be too intrusive and was quite well mannered, didnt get a response though, which i feared i wouldnt get. He probably doesnt want to speak on the matter as its probably something not that simple to explain i guess. He is reading the boards though, he was online tonight

If you are correct, there will undoubtedly be a very nice next release! If that is causing any delay, I'd be happy, because for Armagan to be making core engine improvements at this point shows that he really cares for the quality of the product.

hear hear!

To reiterate:

I think what I'm criticizing here is the M&B team's priorities. They've got a standout product, enthusiastic fans, and dedicated modders. It would take so little to keep them all happily hanging in there for the next version. If being more forthcoming with the community costs an extra day or two before the release can be made, it's still smart to do the public relations.

A great next version will make up for the delay somewhat, but not totally! There's no replacement for the doing the right thing at the right time in the right way ("What They Don't Teach You at Harvard Business School").

There's just no pleasing you people, is there? If work needs to be done, it needs to be done. Simple as that.
