Defeating 100 Knights

in real life, when a horse walks OVER you, it doesnt do 4-0 damage, it kills you! at least half to death if youre very lucky... also, when you drop from a horse that died, you get some damage too...
If it really steps on you, you can stay goodbye to your ribcase or what ever. But if the only contact is the charge impact death would not come so easily.

Well the problem is, that a horse will knock you down for 3 damage, and you're doing the 'on the ground getting up' animation, while three other horses ride straight over you without damage. My beserker, who wears some really nice armour, has survived many horse charges without taking much damage at all.

May I just say something to BobG about his
"Huh... we were 50 heavily armored knights, and this one guy with a bow on a hill has knocked out half of us. Something's not working here."

Remember Agincourt - Thats not what the French did! Supposedly the French had around 20-30,000. The English had 5000 archers and about 900 men at arms.

The English won, with estimated battle loses for the French = 7,000 - 10,000 with 1500 nobles captured while the English lost between 100 - 500 men.

Thats where the V sign comes from - The archers fingers. The french used to cut their (the English) fingers off when captured. The V comes from archers would show the V to show the french they still had them.

I think the framerate might slow down with about 35,000 on screen though

I have problems solo against 10+ mounted archers. They always hit me from nasty directions...otoh, I have no problem in clearing 20+ dark hunters/dark kights solo!

True, but you'll note that the French had lost less than half of their troops at the end of the battle, according to your figures. Enemies in M&B, however, fight down to the last man, even against a single archer whom they can't reach, but who can easily reach them. It reminds me of the light grenade from the rather mediocre and silly movie, "Mom and Dad Save the World":

A squad of soldiers come across an abandoned campsite. While searching it, one of them discovers a mysterious metal orb with the words "Pick me up" etched onto it. Several others look on as he reaches down, picks up the orb, and instantly vanishes in a flash of light. The remaining soldiers begin to crowd around and, one by one, read the orb, pick it up, and also vanish in a flash of light. Finally, as their numbers are dwindling, the squad commander turns around and says into his radio, "We're going to need more troops here."

This kind of scenario should not happen in a game that's all about tactics.

There are a couple solutions to the problem of Dark Knights, supposedly the most powerful enemy in the game, being pushovers;

1) Give the dark knights better horses. Cavalry battles in this game are often decided by who has the most manuverable horses. Its kind of funny to see an army of dark knights with hundreds of thousands of denar's in equipment riding around on a bunch of nags.

2) Give them more balanced units. Sea Raiders are good example of this. They are equiped with good armor, good melee weapons, good ranged weapons and are quite possibly the toughest units in the game. The black knights should carry a wider array of weaponry like bows, crossbows, and throwing weapons. Maybe even have a 'Black Cataphract' unit, or just give the 'Dark Hunters' bows.

3) Have the enemy AI reprogrammed so that it 'recognizes' whether an enemy has drawn back his weapon to strike, and what path that weapon will take when swung. One of the easiest AI exploits at the moment is to pull back (but not release) your weapon, then swing as the enemy soldier walks into range. The AI should at least put its shield up.

4) Improve horse physics. There have been dozens of times when an enemy horseman moving perpendicular to me slams into my side. In the game, he come to an instant stop, and it allows me a free swing at him. In reality, either his horse should realize its about to collide with another horse, and stop short, or both our horses go tumbling over spilling both riders onto the ground.

5) Give the AI to ability to pick its battles. If the current one isn't going so well, it should retreat and fight you agian on a different battle field.

6) Make the battle fields more realistic. Most of Calradia is a featureless plain. Where did all these cliffs and mountians come from?

To make it more difficult I just drink big glasses of gin or vodka. Then the A.I. really shines.

  Ahh yes, that good old equaliser called grog...
Works like a charm for me too...

Mount and Blade is good fun for what it is, but I hope the designers consider it more of a starting point for something bigger and deeper.

It's in beta. It IS a starting point for something bigger and deeper.

Yeah I know, blame it on koolie. he's the one who's been necroing all of these damn threads.
