Default vs NTW musket sounds + DL link

I've watched the patriot, they used real replicas (no bullets ofc :grin:) and they sound pretty much alike  :razz:

Tomorrow, new patch with upgradable troops, new sounds , cant wait to start all over again :grin:
 
I've shot a black powder musket, it was very loud.

The thing was the reload time, for all of us (that were there) it took a minute+ to reload it. Armies during the 18th century would drill to get their men to reload a second quicker than the enemies. While Napoleon reign takes place over a 100 year later than WFaS, the black powder firearm didn't have much of a change so the sound shouldn't be too off (bore changes, changes to improve reloading, etc).

Here's an interesting history paragraph that goes over black powder rifles:
Matchlock Muskets took a long time to reload and many were very inaccurate, so army tacticians typically deployed musket-men in formations to maximize firepower.

This tactic was pioneered by Maurice of Nassau, who taught it to Dutch troops in the Eighty Years' War. It was originally known as the countermarch, where troops were arranged in lines up to twelve, but more usually eight or six deep. After the front rank fired it would file away to the rear to reload. Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden made two important advances in the use of this tactic. First, he simplified and standardized reloading, then drilled his musketeers ceaselessly until they reloaded in action by reflex, without becoming distracted. Second, he pioneered the use of the volley or "salvo" as an offensive tactic for Swedish infantry in the Thirty Years' War.

Because of the musket's slow reloading time it was necessary until 1700 or later to use pikemen to protect them from cavalry. After the invention of the bayonet and flintlock musket, infantry were no longer equipped with the pike and their firing formations were reduced to three ranks deep. By having the front rank kneel, all three ranks would be able to fire at the same time. This allowed all the men in the unit to fire at the same time, unleashing a withering volley that would slam into the enemy. However, they had to be fairly close for the fire to be effective.
 
Thank you!  I'm a huge fan of the Total War games, I had this idea and was hoping someone would do it.  I use the same sound mod for Empire and Napoleon, too.

The best part of reading that is not that's it's nice to know. It's the fact that i've already came to this conclusion today on how they went from pikemen+musketmen to bayonet line formation.

So how do you get these files to work? I put them into my sounds file but then when i started playing WFAS, I had no in-game sound at all, just the background music, please help, i really want this to work

They files are already named the files they need to replace, don't change the folder or anything (which it sounds like you did).

I don't know if the new patch today upgrades the sounds but i will probs keep using NTW sounds until there is  a full mod out :smile:
 
I don't care if the sound is 100% accurate to what these firearms MAY have sounded like back in the day, but anything is an improvement over the native crackling that they try to pass off as gunfire.

Now all we need is more smoke, since smokeless powder wasn't around for a LONG time after WFAS.
 
I would love more smoke like Mount&Musket as some times you can't even see your target with the amount guns going off lol :grin:
 
i copied and pasted just the smoke effects from an m&b mod (can't remember the name, it's old) and they're quite a bit better. more smoke that lasts longer. here is how to use it:

go to your particle_systems.txt file in the ogniem i mieczem module folder, back it up FIRST, then open it. use search to find "psys_pistol_smoke" and highlight the text all the way down to the END of psys_oim_musket_smoke (highlight right up until psys_oim_pistol_ogon starts) and paste the following code:

nah, this forum doesn't allow attachments and I am not signing up for an image hosting service for something this minor. if you don't want to try it, you don't have to. it's very similar to the default effect in appearance, there is just more smoke that hangs in the air a bit longer.
