Decreasing max party size?

Sergeant at Arms
To the best of my knowledge nothing has changed... I was in no battles, the game is only 70 days old so stat loss isn't in play, I lost only one companion but she had nothing to do with my leadership skill....

I had a party limit of 78 and was roaming around recruiting and training troops for my garrison, after I decided my garrison was sufficiently full I loaded up on my elite troops (I stashed them in the garrison to free up room in party) and went out to find where the marshal was toting the army around.

From there I made two quick stops to recruit troops... I picked up some and saw I was at 77/78 so passed on the next few villages (other than supplies) and went on to meet up with the main army. The trip took me through the night so I stopped to upgrade my recruits and that is when I noticed.... I was suddenly at 77/77 for troops...

I arrived at the location where I was told our marshal was only to see they had captured the castle and had moved on... I chased them for 3 days (really need to work on my pathfinding) but only found Ragnar, he had a task for me.. lend him Klethi, I did and got directions to where the marshal was at and went off on my way (I apparently headed in the wrong direction at first) for another two days... again when I went to upgrade troops I see that my party size has shrunk again... instead of looking at 77/77 I am looking at 76/76

My only thought on this is I am somehow losing renown... is it possible that if you stay inactive long enough you fall out of the limelight and lose a bit of your fame? I had spent the better part of the month ignoring my faction obligations and training troops not competing in tournaments or fighting any battles so that is the only thing I can think of as to why I am suddenly losing capacity.

You have to fight battles or join tournaments regularly to prevent renown loss because it will indeed fall. It isn't much noticed when you have like 500 renown but at 2000 it can be a real *****.

Funny that you say that... I only have 558 renown yet this is the first time I have ever noticed this...

Then again most games by the time I have extended times of peace I am usually running down bandits to level my troops up faster.

Bandits can give some good renown in the start of your game but you have 70+ troops you will hardly get renown. I would advice you to either fight lords, join plenty of tournaments or make a camp at a seareader hideout and wait until you get swarmed by a big number of searaiders.

Either that or bring less soldiers with you when fighting bandits.

I already do that..... Grab 30-40 recruits + my companions and go out hunting the largest bandit parties I can find. Never did it for the renown though did it for the exp... by that late in the game Jeremus or whomever I am using as a surgeon has 8 or 9 surgery so the ones I take prisoner more than pay for the few I lose.
