"Declaring a Sovreign Kingdom"?

So, with the use of the search tool in these forums, someone stated that you can go to your steward and declare independence with all the lands you own.

I have 3 castles with over 400 troops inside and 3 towns with over 700, two of them I have built up to become the richest cities in Pendor. Each location has a certain honor troop I have built to spawn every few days.

My relations with all except two lords in the Empire are above 50, and should be ripe for the taking.

.... and Marius will not stop giving me the castles and towns I besiege. Then I go back to the steward and there is no option.

So am I screwed? Did I just accidentally make the Empire become the second strongest faction in the game, second to the Fierdsvain? Was that "talk to steward to declare independence" just for original MB?

If there's any other option other than losing all my locations with all the troops I stacked up in there, let me know. I dont mind losing my castles, but I should at least, at minimum want to keep my towns.

Two options;

Remove the bulk of your garrisons from your castles, speak to Marius and quit the Empire. Those locations will be lost, but should be dead easy to recapture.
Or
Take some more lands, and demand them all. If Marius says no, then rebel.

Either way you have to be independent from any major faction before you can declare Pendor.

Another way to do it is to accept the claimant quest then abandon it

I remember trying that in Native and you'll forever be rebels even after winning, but as soon as you abandon the claimant quest in PoP, you apparently get the choice to rename your kingdom.

You can't do that in the current version of PoP. Once you abandon the quest, all your holdings will be reverted to the original faction.

One question about that.
If you revealed when your king deny you a fief or you declared independence using steward option, Can you rename your kingdom and select that you wish to continue with Ancient Pendor customs(taking pendor recruits from your villages)?

Never declared my independence, just conquered a castle. Independence doesnt mean that you are pendor, you have to choose your background faction from yojur steward, this is done auto when you capture a castle. So i guess you need to talk with your steward and have a castle/town to do that

I captured a castle first as independent and I got to choose which faction I would use (pendor).
