I get you man. Thank you for your feedback. Almost 5 pm my time so ill check it out myself soon(TM). I don't get why some people want to shift more into "twerking" combat gameplay. Have at it in Mordhau or COD. Hopefully TW balances it more toward slowness.

Hehe, yea I suggested ESO, because I always hear "A game doesn't need to be realistic" and all that, so why not fight against wizards and dragons, and be absolutely sure that you get to rape your mouse and keyboard non-stop with that game.

EDIT:
I just reverted back to 1.4.2, if they wanted appeal to the Warband circlejerkers with this update/test they certainly did not miss the mark. I personally don't think it's gotten more intuitive or inviting though.

Well, I look forward to trying out the 1.5 patch, the changes sound like things are headed in the right direction, but figured I'd throw my opinion into the ring as a previous warband and current bannerlord player who is casual but has also played a great deal of MP.

From what I can tell, OP's main argument is that warband's combat looked goofy, which is true, some things looked ridiculous. Also that you needed to utilize some concentration and reaction time, which any challenging game will have you do. Also that Bannerlord's combat is great and should be striving ever more towards realism.

I think I'm going to have to disagree with the sentiments here that Bannerlord's combat is all that great. As an experienced casual MP player I can see the numerous problems with combat in it's current form. There is absolutely a block delay that is frustrating to deal with, there is more feint spam than there is in Warband because a lot of the other tools you could utilize in Warband's combat you are just not able to do, chamber or even punish the opponent when you know it's going to be a feint. Combat feels like you're fighting submersed in the ocean, it feels clunky and sluggish.

While duels in Warband certainly looked ridiculous most of the time (Certainly wasn't my cup of tea in MP), combat in other gamemodes does not look like that at all in Warband and your inexperience in Warband MP belies the statement you made of it looking completely silly with the feint spam.

Neither Warband or Bannerlord are realistic depictions of what a realistic melee fight looks like and I'm starting to wonder if you actually are aware of what a realistic Melee fight looks like. I would suggest watching some HEMA videos and such, to the untrained eye it looks janky, sword movements are quick but precise as opponents jostle around and try to figure out eachother's guards and how to get around them. But I don't think as far as a game goes we should be striving for realism, I doubt I'd be invested in playing a game that would take years of time to become even functionally proficient in. At least in Warband and Bannerlord you can get better at the game in a fraction of the time.

As for being stressed, I'm not sure why you feel so stressed or you're just conflating the term stress with concentration. Every game that has an adversarial nature requires concentration. If you want to run about on autopilot, that is perfectly acceptable but I think perhaps games like Bannerlord or Warband aren't the ones to be playing, something like autoclickers or turnbased games where you don't need to think much or have ample time to think on how you want to proceed.

Yea, concentration, I like concentration. Overboard concentration borders into stress. Pretty seemless even. I'm not saying I don't like some stressful moments, but there are certainly more in 1.5 than before. It's not a it-has or it-hasn't situation, it's a spectrum, fine-grained. And I think it's too much in this update. That's what I will say.

Have you ever once considered that if you were good at the game and knew how to melee block, melee blocking would not be as stressful?

Playing Warband TDM is honestly a zen for me. It’s very satisfying to just get on and mess around with a sword and shield.

You need to pay more attention. You don't know where the next hit lands. The less reaction time you have the more stressful it will be. Not saying that it can't be satisfying but it needs balance and in my opinion in this patch it's out of that balance. Understandable or you want to go the "he's incoherent" route?

"I'm bad at the game so I don't want to play" is an okay attitude I guess.
"I'm bad at the game so I get to insult everyone as a 'warband circlejerker' and TaleWorlds should change the game" is not.

I think like 3 or 4 weeks ago on TDM I was consistently #1 on the scoreboard for a couple of nights. My game sessions were around 3 to 4 hours and occured from 5 pm to 9 pm on a weekend. Good times but stressful as fudge. I was pretty much zoomed out of the world, and my gf told me that I was muttering and doing weird things on my chair while playing. I remember I was exhausted after each session, and pretty stressed. I would like for that not to be every gaming session.

Ill be honest, the latter.

Im sorry that this game isnt zen enough for you, but I really dont think it was ever designed to be. If you want to play a "medieval combat sim" you need to be ready for people to try and kill you with medieval weapons.

If you want a medieval experience where you dont have to use your brain, you could always try games like skyrim or to a lesser extent Witcher or Kingdom Come. Those are all games which have similar medieval vibes without a combat system which requires your full attention.

Asking for a game which is both multiplayer pvp and also easy at the same time is such a hypocritical statement. If you cant handle a game with a high skill ceiling, you are simply not Taleworlds target audience for multiplayer. Im sorry.

I dont think there's anything sorry to be about. He wants his voice to be heard. Therefore he created a post explaining his argument. Others chime in. He will play the game whenever he likes, and keep on living life.

I will meet him in battle some day and will love seeing him underestimate me :shifty: The "hey just play another game" thing, we can go down that road, as said @EbdanianAdmiral go play ESO, it's made for competitiveness and hacking computer input equipment to pieces more or less only (from what I've seen anyway).

Most games' final bosses are easy to beat. Especially since we did all the side quests by defeating Tork and AxiosXiphos. The Ebdanian Admiral will destroy you!

He has nothing but "yea but with this audience here it's easy for me to claim that your complex argument about with your 'nuances' and 'spectrums' is just incoherent". If I had a penny...

If you had a penny you would give it to someone to teach you how to block.

Hi, Metafa. I was watching your gameplay earlier.

My advice for some of these clips:

1) If you're holding an attack and you've walked right up to an enemy, try to release your attack
2) Don't switch back to your bow right in front of an infantry swinging his 2h weapon
3) Don't jump straight towards someone throwing a projectile at you
4) Try to block if an enemy is attacking you with a weapon (ideally in the appropriate direction)
5) Try to aim the weapon you're swinging towards the opponent
6) If you have a shield, try to equip it and use it if people are throwing projectiles at you
7) It's not a good idea to run straight into a charging cavalry's lance (especially if you don't release the attack you've readied)

I am writing as someone who is completely terrible at MP, jsyk.

I always liked preferred playing napoleonic wars as i felt it simplified the combat for me, only ever up or down. Unless of course I came across someone with a sword, then I knew I was f'ed.

And when I played BL MP, I of course did quite badly. Whether that was my bad internet or bad skills, it doesn't matter too much. What I do know is that all aspects of the game, including MP, is still a work in progress. I am quite interested to try MP now since the 1.5.0 update because it changed alot of things, but even I know that if I am still bad it's mostly gonna be on me.

I know that unless they add autoblock to MP (which TW would never do) I will forever be trash at MP, unless of course I make at concerted effort to get better at learning how fighting works. It would be silly to lean on my age as an excuse (seeing as I am only 25), as I have been shown people in their late 30's to be WAY better than me.

I think it comes a point for most people where they must realise that they are just incompatible with the meta gaming a certain game's MP presents and that other games will give them what they want. I learned that playing altis life on Arma 3 or PW on warband, I just enjoyed roleplaying alot more than skilled combat. There is no shame in this.

It’s pretty flawed to assume you have to be amazing at a game to enjoy it. Many of my best memories involving Warband had 0 fighting whatsoever. Just people messing around and having a laugh.

Exactly my dude. There were plenty of tryhard servers on Arma 3 I could've went to, but I knew it would not be for me.

People just need to learn to enjoy the game the way they want to. I feel that this will become more of an option once they release the modding tools and custom severs.

I agree with you and this is my jam, i'm not into that combat stuff, i'm into that class stuff, running around with my straw hat and meeting similar people who have no intention of fighting <3

but bannerlord took this away with the lack of class selection so now i have nothing to do but to be forced to "enjoy" the combat
