OK I got Crusades downloaded and it extracts fine.

Do you know what could be the problem with LOTR?

It still doesn't work (no changes to the game apart from the 'islamic shield'). But I'll try a suggestion OkIN gave me in the Shambling Hordes thread. I think that might be the problem.
