ok im soon finished with the texture, but, i need one last suggestion.

i have a cross, but i dont want to paste it onto the armor, i just want its shape the selection you getting me?

if i havea cross and it has a special shape and i just want its selection how can i get the selection onto psp 9?

Heres a trick I use, take your reference image, copy the whole thing and paste it into the skin, then make it %50 transparent, now, take your lasso and trace under the transparent cross, you may have to start outside the cross image so you don't trace the actual cross instead of under it.

or you can do it the easy way, magic wand, select the cross, copy it onto an empty space on your texture, then right click and drag will jsut drag the selection... put it where you want it, after that you do manual color correction so you get the same effect as the rest of the cloth... voila! and you have a nice cross!

For all those using Photoshop to change textures, check this out:

http://developer.nvidia.com/object/photoshop_dds_plugins.html

It's a plugin that allows you to load .dds files into Photoshop with the alpha channel in tact. No more shininess problems!

Edit: I just read the whole page I linked to above and I've found that there are instructions for using this plugin for Jasc's PSP Pro as well. In fact, if you check this page:

http://developer.nvidia.com/object/nv_texture_tools.html

it explains how to get a similar plugin for the GIMP and links to other .dds utilities as well.

Unfortunately, I could not get the plugin to work with Photoshop CS2 9.0, but I did find a much easier to use utility anyway. Check out: http://www.miichsoft.de/index.php?page=software/imageconverter/imageconverter.html.

For any programmers who want to add .dds file support to their software, check out the freeware libraries: http://openil.sourceforge.net/ or http://freeimage.sourceforge.net/. The DevIL library will both read and write .dds files while FreeImage will only read them. Hope these links help...

Strange, I got it working with CS and 6.0. It would just not install or what?

The InstallShield ran just fine and said that the plug-ins were installed correctly, but they weren't. I think Adobe may have changed a registry value or two with this latest version of Photoshop as nothing new was installed into the PhotoshopPlug-ins or Common FilesAdobe folders...

Hmm... You might want to check to see if you can open .dds files from the file menu in Photoshop. The only new files it added for me are a couple of scripts in the PhotoshopPresetsScripts folder and it works just dandy for me.

Nope, doesn't work with my version of PS. Nothing installed into PresetsScripts either. The plug-in probably needs to be upgraded to make it compatible with PS 9.0...

Oh well... I'm writing a VB6 wrapper for DevIL right now anyway, so I'll just write my own little conversion prog...

nope - I'm using cs 2 - make sure it's installed in the cs 2/plugins directory - that's what most commonly goes wrong!

Thanks! Time to go test this out on 7.0...

Hey, works great. Made some custom tracking icons for the map and some faces.

Only problem is I can't figure out how to add the face without having it replace one of the existing ones.

Pretty sure I know how to add it in face_gen.txt, but the .rsf files are out of my league for the moment.

Thanks for the link. I owe you one if that's all you really need to do to add new faces.

Does n008 reply to pms or prefer something else? I'm guessing you want me to send it for hugemod, right?

Another thing I'd like to figure out is how to make some armor that actually has female proportions. Looks like all that stuff is in the costumes3.dds file, but adding new stuff is beyond me at the moment. Just been able to change the ugly pink dress to a nicer brown.

He usually replies  I made some graphics for him that he's in the procces of adding so I'm quite certain he won't mind adding some more.

bandist anyone?

I use the Irfanview to change the dds files to bmps, but it wont let me re-save them as a dds after i edit them? anyone know why?
Thankee
