I am still - after all this time - getting used to 1.134.

By and large it's great  - am however having to adjust to the way AI forces operate on the battlefield.

First off I sympathise with those who don't like strange AI behaviour because I am experiencing it myself-

You know - where the enemy army advances in a line abreast  to the end of your flank all the while rotating to face you only to find itself pressed up against the limit of the battlefield bunching up and  then charging in a disorganised rabble.

I am still trying to see the sense in this - I would prefer a group just coming at me tbh!

However I thought I would report my findings in fighting this pirouetting shambles.

I have a fair number of infantry but my stars are the archers - of which I have a very good group of horse archers including Companions - I position the infantry on the side closest to the enemy and send the horse archers behind the enemies furthest flank - as they hinge in I release the volley of arrows. The archers I tend to stand on the inside of the infantry shielded by them but able to shoot clearly too.

After the initial engagement I let the archers attack from the flank and realease the horse archers with blunts.

It's an observation - but a three pronged attack like this takes advantage of the AIs inflexibility while it's predictable tactics already put it at a huge disadvantage.

I wish paradox would sort it out.

yea its annoying as sin..

the way Ive started to get round it, is similar to yours.

place your inf in the path of the advancing foe. and archers on suitable hill (there no lack of hills in m&b ha ha) in a flanking postion. so you leave a corridor between your lines. cavalry can be set up in another suitable position to come in (I'm not using cav in this game)

then you get in the line with your inf, or just behind if ya on horse, and the foe should advance directly to you, mainly because your inf are in the path of the foe. if your set up right they should get shot at in the flank and rear as the foe trys to lock in with your inf. (screen shots will help ya see what i mean, ill get some took and loaded up)

it can be a bit tricky you ll probably have to re postion a few times before your ready to fight. but its hell of allot better than dancing your line with the foes stupid tactics.

There have been several prior threads on this general subject and at this stage most people are used to it now - but how annoying! The thing is if you know what your enemy is gonna do you can lay a perfect defence to wait for them - so not only do you have to employ the same strategy in each engagement but you have no other clever inventive tactics to employ ever. What's worse is that the enemy in doing this bizarre dance effectively destroy what little cohesion they had in the process.

It's not new and I don't think the community likes it but it's nice to hear some sympathy!
