If your having trouble starting out, start in ireland. Easiest bandits are in ireland. If your simply saying that those bandits are unlikeable, id have to agree.

Just don't mess with the Danes or the Franks in the beginning.

Eh, Theows and Bandit Gangs are piss. Dena and Franks, now those'll **** your recruits up good. Especially if you had an army of recruits with you for training purposes (if you survive a brainless charge against the Danes then you are fit for promotion- type training) and choose to bury and loot after taking a party of Danes down it could get messy. I think I started with about 200 recruits, steamrolled a group of Danes, looted and buried, got attacked while in-camp by a new group of Danes, defeated them, loot and bury, attacked by another group of mother****ing Danes (this one about 60 man in size, the largest of the three), defeated them barely, chose 'leave that crap' and ****ed off to Rendlaesham. I ended with slightly less than a hundred men, I think, but they did get some experience.
