Damage types

Ok, question...do the different damage types actually affect things? Does piercing damage differ from blunt or cutting...and what are these differences? I haven't been able to figure it out...

I believe so. As you'll probably know, Blunt damage doesn't kill stuff. It also bypasses some of the armour, i believe. Piercing also bypasses some of the armour, I think.

Of course: target: chicken (commen enough object). Smachs with club and you damage outside and near the outside. Stab with knife and you pierce the skin and insides near the blade. Same with slash and chop.

Piercing and blunt halves the armour effect.
Pretty good.

When you know that you begin to get a new love for the swords that do both piercing and slashing. Nordic Sword? Oh yeah!

I'm almost positive blunt has no reducing effect on armor. I've sat there in full black and let bandits club me for 0 damage constantly. Where as a kitchen knife with around the same damage actually deals a few points of hurt to me. It would make more sense if smaller blunt weapons were worthless against armor, but heavier ones, like the warhammer did extra damage (or reduce the armor factor by half as you stated).

That is because it has to do with chance. It is a rather complex equation wheer you devide and all kind of stuff to end up at the result.

Anyway I got this from Armagan some time ago. I'm sure some of the others can confirm this.

Blunt damage numbers are typically lower. Black armour is something like 26. A club does 11b. So what if it bypases 1/2 the armour? 11<13. Hence, 0 damage.

Now, a falchion or something looks pretty small too but does 28 so that may actually hurt you.

As for swords like nordic swords, it doesn't do both at once. Slashes are the cutting damage and lunge/stabs are piercing.

Still, a big blunt sucker is better than some low damage dealing cutting stuff. Swing speed for giat hammers are a big low though. Get good agility and high 2H skill to compensate.

The military hammer is the most useful one-hander in the game against pretty much everyone except naked enemies. The morningstar is the most damaging, but the speed is so low that it's only really useful for insane proficiencies.
