Why - it is really nice here - nice countryside, we have a farm, no visible neighbors and can go into town for pub crawls, etc. and stay in the country when we don't want company - best of both worlds!  We lived in town for years and the country is much better.  Beats the crap out of Northern VA, I can tell you.  Cheers, F

I was kind of put off by the lack of civilization, too many waffle houses. I was down there like three months ago for an Audi club meet. Drove from there to Richmond, then up to Baltimore, and back to DC/NoVa area. And yeah NoVa is kinda kinda ****ty as well, too many yuppies, but less hicks.

Charlottesville doesn't have many hicks because they can't afford to live here.  You probably never got too far off North 29, which is horrible, agreed.
On the other hand, the old Downtown is a bricked over open air area with outdoor cafes, great food, etc.  My pub's the one Dave Matthews bartended in - Miller's.  Miller's predates my store by only 6 months, but I am out of retailing now, thank God.  Great place, excellent beers on draft for best prices in town.
