I really hope these look good for you all. (For what it’s worth, these look pretty decent on my computer — however, I’m quite spoiled with a Hi-DPI 13″ notebook…)

There may be some small issues. The ends of text appear clipped in certain screens, which may be unavoidable. If you find any glitches or text clashes, if the text is just a little too big or too small, let me know and I’ll try to work them out.

Most of these fonts, sadly, don’t have much international language support. If you’re itching for good fonts in extended Latin or Cyrillic or other alphabets, keep your eye out for open and free fonts that have i18n (internationalization).

What’s this for, and how it works

I’ve almost mastered converting custom fonts for game text. So, as to get better, and give the community better-looking fonts, I will create a handful of custom fonts from existing free ones for anyone to use in their games.

The only rule is that it be open and free (OFL SIL, BSD, GPL or compatible license). No commerical fonts.

Where do you find fonts like this? Sites like these:

Feel free to make some suggestions. I will choose 5 to start with. If you are a mod developer I may be more inclined to choose one for you (as the goal is to get good-looking text in more players’ games).

So ill be the first to take you up on the offer

Fonts here : http://www.fontsquirrel.com/fonts/Yataghan OR http://www.dafont.com/first-order.font?text=WINTERFELL (im not sure which would look best, so whichever is easiest for you)

For my mod here : http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/topic,271098.0.html

Thankyou muchly .

I suppose you are using the tool here: http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/topic,67315.0.html
What kind of font would you choose for an Elder Scrolls mod?

Good idea! Swyter's font converter gives me different results depending on the computer I'm using and on my home PC it keeps using the bold type of the font. Has something to do with my computer I think. Anyway, I'll bugger you when I find a decent font

Are you sure that's what you meant to say?

On a totally unrelated note: Fonts are cool! A good font can make the difference between a good piece of work and an exceptional piece of work.

I haven’t found consistent success with that tool. I’ve instead been using ppfonter, which seems to output into the right format, with just a handful of edits necessary. (BMFont is my personal favorite, but requires significant editing for M&B that just doesn’t make it worthwhile.)

Oblivion uses Kingthings Petrock, but many different typefaces could work well. I’ve always been fond of Almendra and New Rocker. Unifraktur Maguntia is a nice gothic font, but perhaps a little too historical or ornate for Elder Scrolls.

I wouldn't mind trying out Almendra myself, if you have it ready to go.

I have also been looking at Cardinal (http://www.dafont.com/cardinal.font)

and Perry Gothic (http://www.dafont.com/perry-gothic.font)

although the latter might be too blocky to look good in-game...

I’m afraid “Cardinal” is actually “Cymbeline,” a font sold by Scriptorium, which carries a commercial license. (I typically don’t trust dafont, as too many of the fonts there are stolen.)

It looks like Perry Gothic is doable as it is a font from De Nada Industries. And yes, I have just tested Almendra, so I will start with that.

I will have font files to release today! Meanwhile, keep the requests coming!

It's a tool I made in early 2009, when my English was barely comprehensible. I was dabbling in programming back then, go figure.
Didn't even have an Internet connection to learn stuff and clear my questions or getting documentation.

(This is specially important for coding, where reference is key)

Thank that still works fine for Warband. And I know, not my finest job, I'd admit.

Still, the tool is quite a feat. Pretty good for just “dabbling in programming,” if you ask me!

Font Bundle #1 is released! I’ve updated the first post to reflect this. (Or click here to download.) Feel free to use any of them.

Featuring: Almendra, Amarante, Eagle Lake, Julee and Pirata. (Previews are in the first post.)

I’ll put more out as time permits. Thanks for the suggestions thus far! Keep them coming!

Well, yeah, as long as "to bug" someone means the same as "to bother". I might have it wrong though, English is not my native language.

Damn, Swyter, I was not criticising! And, yes, for "dabbling in programming" it's really good. Keep up the good work

I’m struggling to get Yatghan to look good for text. Although it looks great for headers and titles, it just doesn’t read well in large bodies of text. The other one you suggested, which is called “First,” is also difficult. (If you want either of these, you can PM me and I’ll give them to you, but you will likely be disappointed as they are hard to read.)

You may be better off using a different font. I’ll be posting some more today with some alternatives that I think you may like, so stay tuned.

Have you thought about Game of Thrones font?
Game of Thrones uses a modified Trajan. The best open and free Trajan I can find is Cinzel, so I’ll have that for you today.

Oblivion uses a few different fonts; one of those used for the books is called Vinque. I think that would work great.
