How would everyone feel about the inclusion of custom banners in BW? I'm sure most of you are familiar with the idea, rather than selecting from a few pages of stock banners, when one gains the right to a banner, one creates one's own using a special ingame menu. If you're not familiar with it, you can see an example here.

Obviously for the purposes of this mod it would be necessary to replace most if not all of the blazons available by default, to suit the period, and most of the backgrounds too. Perhaps we could even change the colour palette to slightly richer, more desaturated colours.

The point of this thread is to solicit opinions and suggestions for how we might make use of such a system, and if one is even needed. Don't be afraid of a bit of blue skies thinking. We're also going to need probably 46 or so new blazons to replace the old ones, although there may be more and there may be less.

From banners to your personal selection of real good looks. But in this work will need to include not only the script, but also change the texture, character, and change the transparency of textures. Here, the script is described in a previous version of the engine.

I think that something like this, the general style of neat coats of arms would fit better for this mod.    http://www.mbrepository.com/file.php?id=1959

I was under the impression we'd only have to change the banner assets themselves. I don't think Idibil wants livery, just banners. Does that still require changes? Also FALX, do you know how you can edit the banner background options? I couldn't find it when I looked through the source.

I have not had this purpose. There was an idea to make all the emblems of Japanese clans. But designers (3D + textures)  need advice on these issues.

Changing the blazons should be very simple, as you no doubt already know there is an image file with all the blazons in it. I suspect that it would be possible to change how the blazons are arranged (ie. which regions in the image are defined as which blazon), but I don't know python, I can only guess at what the files do based on my other programming knowledge.

My guess is that since I couldn't find a file that describes the banner backgrounds, they are defined procedurally. I just don't know where.

I don`t think in that times was a big variety of banners.

The origins of heraldry lie in the need to distinguish participants in combat when their faces were hidden by iron and steel helmets.
At the time of the Norman conquest of England, heraldry in its essential sense of an inheritable emblem had not yet been developed. The knights in the Bayeux Tapestry carry shields, but there appears to have been no system of hereditary coats of arms.

But I don`t mind)

Well the point is you already have a banner, the difference is being able to design your own. I really need help from people to work out the kind of designs to make available, or the idea is dead in the water.
