Crouch and sprint

Hey, i think it would be awesome with a crouch option and a sprint option in the next patch, what do you think?
sprint so you can surprise a opponent by taking the last 50 meters very fast
crouch cause it would just make more sense if i could crouch with arrows flying around my head

I think something like this is a good idea. Anything that adds to the immersion and fun-factor of the game.

The current sprint mechanic is kinda lacking imo. You need to be able to activate it on demand. Same with a potential crouch - I want to crouch under my enemy's sword when he's aiming for my head.

So he can continue his downward stroke and hit you slightly later with likely more force behind it? Because the way it's implemented in MB this is pretty much all that would happen.

Sprint on demand would be nice although it'd probably result in people choosing fights a lot more. Imagining a battle follow of naked men with two hands running away from anyone in groups of 2+ here..

You're right. It'd have to be balanced and tested a lot before releasing it (which is even more unlikely than these suggestions actually getting implemented).

Now that we're throwing ideas around here - I want to see some downwards and upwards diagonal slashes as well (not necessarily with corresponding blocks) :]

To me the sprint idea is the least useful. Why would we need it? Crouching could at least have some use; kneeling behind a wall to avoid being hit by projectiles, or hiding to take the enemy by surprise. It has more use in firearm mods, but would still have some purpose in native. Sprinting on the other hand, I personally can't see the point of it. Why do you need to sprint?

Because it takes ages to get from place to place? That and running away from people, which I'm not entirely sure is a good sort of thing to implement.

everyone ask for the purposes

sprint would have the purpose of getting to your enemy faster and being able to surprise attack them.
It is also usefull if you're getting followed by 3-4 enemies.
And no, i don't want infinite sprint, but maybe you could be able to sprint for 10 seconds, and then you have to regenrate it or something... i know many games with this mod.

Crouching is useful in many situations, one of them being when you're getting shot at by 5 archers, then you can crouch slowly away behind your shield.
It also allows you to hide behind other things, both to avoid projectiles and to hide so you can surprise enemies who walk by.

Crouching would be awesome, not sure about sprinting.

Sprint actually is in (do nothing but W key)
Oh, what happens then?
You'll run much faster if you do nothing but press w, instead of running while holding your shield up or having a attack ready.

sprinting would also be good for charging archers. I think if you hold a block while sprinting and you run into someone it should damage them alittle, just enough to stagger them like archer bumping. I'd love crouching, ninja attacks would be more successful and fun. Jump from behind rocks or a wall and take them by surprise. But above all the game needs to fix the jumping animations. It's like you stop, jump then stop again then continue moving. It makes the jump nearly useless, in combat it's not really effective anymore as horsemen expect it by now. Archers wait for it because it presents a good target when they pause for a moment and it's not really useful for getting around because you only jump a couple feet.

You want to be able to block while sprinting, and for the unrealistic jump to be made more useful in combat? In my opinion jumping shouldn't be effective in combat at all, the only good reason for it being in the game is so the player can get over small obstructions. As it is, the jump allows players to jump higher than they would be able to in real life, and perform an attack, and their legs don't have a hit box while jumping either so they are harder to kill. I mean no offence, but I really think those ideas would be bad for the game Mongoose.

The jump height I think is fine, I think it's the way the character jumps, have you ever jumped like that? It's clunky and it's makes it rather difficult to get over object like the jump is supposed to. And with sprinting, that idea goes hand in hand with the stamina bar idea. You can't sprint for ever, but it would also cut down spamming by a lot and make players fight smarter. And crouching just makes sense to me, gives ambushers a place to hide, allows players to take cover from archers without destroying their shield and it would be a huge favor for crossbowmen as they could reload in safety for once seeing as Warbands pavises don't work.

which mods? i've either never used one with it or dont know how to do it. Actually, they had prone in WWII chinese battlefield for original m&b, but you couldnt reload or shoot when you were in it so it made it pretty useless. Can you reload/shoot in these mods when crouched?

Uh

You don't get a magical hitbox when jumping.

Assume the following is true:

You and your opponent are using the same weapon

Your opponent and you swing at the same time

You are in the act of jumping

Result:

You will get hit first.

Why? Your weapon is at a greater distance from its opponent than your enemies weapon. He hits your legs which is closer to his weapon than his body is to your weapon. Jump is primarily used to create space which is really great for longer ranged weapons. And just like in real life you can definatly swing a sword while jumping.

What jumping gives the player is an element of suprise, and if his opponent swings late, or is swinging low (and thus you jump over his sword) it can give you an open attack. Experienced players do not often fall for jumps, and the jumper usually gets hit.
