Crosshair for non-bow weapons

Hi everyone,

I was playing M&B a while again, and did a lot of tournaments to play with the new weapon-control. The thing that's unpleasant though, is that you usually chop, because you need to look a lot to the left or right to adapt your attack.

So I wondered: wouldn't it be possible to have a crosshair for swords (and other weapons) as well, but with 4 parts (so like the one for archery, except 1 more part). With a slight movement to the left, right, up or down, the part of that direction would move a little to that direction, so you know what kind of attack you'd make.

I know, I can't explain... I hope you understand.

I strongly disagree. I am sure you are less used to action-oriented games, but the fact is that you simply have the tendency to miss high.

I do however feel there should be an option for those who are less good with the mouse.

I am very enthusiastic about M&B's minimal interface, and I would be ecstatic to see nothing but gameplay on the screen. I have my own suggestion for weapon direction. The current system is brilliant and perfect, but I could do without those arrows.

When the attack button is depressed, and the character has his weapon raised, let the stance CHANGE without letting the blow fall. The stance will then indicate the direction of attack, and this will also allow the player to fake out the enemies.

. . . and if the stance changes as the player moves the mouse while the weapon is raised, the arrows won't be necessary.

I think not having crosshairs on the weapon is easier! I found that when I am chraging I can't really see my weapion because my crosshairs cover it, with no crosshairs I can see my weapon and am able to tell wehere my swing will go, especially on my mount.

PS I love the new lances, harder and funner to work with!

Yea, I have to agree that your vision would a little more limited, but you have to move your mouse aaaaaaaaaaaall the way to the left or right to change your attack. That's not very comfortable if you're in a man to man fight.

It works ok in a 1 on 1 fight, the whole swing control, but when fighting in a chaotic battle, my aim and attack types are almost always off, not to mention I have a harder time hitting and even knowing when to swing...

My only gripe is that right now it's way too hard to use the stab attack, if you move your mouse down and even a little to the left or right you'll end up with a swing attack. Moving the mouse down below a certain point should always result in a stab attack, same thing with moving the mouse above a certain point should result in an overhand.

I can agree with that.
It seems to work like this...

I would think it needs to be more like this?

Actually, currently it is like this:

Code:
           /
          /
      ___/
      /
     /
    /

By the way the direction is relative your target's chest.

ooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhh.....
Yeah I guess that makes more sense. I was even wondering to myself why it was so much easier to swing over than to stab.

I think as a player, I tend to focus my view on the opponents head or above. Could consideration be given toward making the "hit graph" relative to a higher point on the target, such as the forehead?

i wish you could bring back the old aiming system, at least as an option. i find the new system extremely annoying and hard to use...

I have to admit I'm really not getting the hang of this. Too often I'm mousing in one direction for a turn but trying to strike in another direction. Could be the calibration is just off and only needs some tweaking or it could be I'm just not as coordinated as I'd like to be. Somehow the old system seemed more intuitive. I'd just tend to hack the direction I was moving in and all was well.

Dunno..maybe mouse swing attacks would perhaps be the best thing after all like in the Elder Scrolls games...at least you have full control of which type of attack you have to do...

Basically, keep the attack button pressed and move the mouse in a direction...attack will only occur when you move the mouse in one of the four directions and have the attack button pressed...was suggested before, but don't think that everyone liked it...I personally find it the most initiutive way of making different types of attacks with ease and at the exact time you want them to happen...

It would be an odd method if you used the mouse to turn as well. Push the attack button and stop turning but slash, it'd be really counter-intuitive because of that. In a game where the curors made you turn rather than strafe it would be a decent method, but it'd be clunky in this game.

Well it works wonders in Daggerfall/Morrowind...can strafe all you want, look with the mouse and attack the target you want, all with ease...and the movement controls are exactly the same like almost all 3d/fps games nowadays...asdw for moving about, and mouse to look with...best of all there's not the slightest confusion as to which type of attack you want to do AND you can hit any target you want...assuming they're within range of course...
