Critical Hits

Would a critical hit feature be feasible?

I'm not sure how exactly to implement it.
Maybe every weapon has like a 5% chance of critical. And some weapons can have a critical hit bonus % which raises their price.

Maybe even a new skill, Precision or something. And it could even be an Intelligence based combat skill. Cause it's basically knowing exactly where to strike. And it would give characters who are heavily Int and Cha based a bit more chance in combat.

Critical hits is are lame! (c).
Locational damage and 'bypass armor' chance do the same, but much more realistic. Really, why not make this 'Precision' skill allow us to make 2% per skill attacks that bypass armor (will not work on blunt (but blunt attacks should be pretty armor-bypassing anyway, due to concussive force of the impact), and 2x chance in piercing).
As for critical damage - just add 2x multiplier for head or neck hits ... and, perhaps, when you hit head or body for more then 20 hps, apply abovementioned 2% chance for instant kill probability (vital organ struck).
That would be way better then generic 'critical hits'.

The problem with critical hits is that it works both ways. As it is now, a lucky crossbow bolt in the head can kill you instantly. You'll be running the risk of getting really frustrated if enemies have a 1 in 20 chance of doing extra damage.

I like the system as it is now. More skill, less luck.

I don't know. I've taken on swarms of knights who only occaisionally manage to hit me, and when they do it's usually only about 1 to 5 damage cause I'm all armored up.

I think critical hits wouldn't be too bad. As long as they're not overdone. I mean, I don't want every other hit to be one. But it does make sense. Be it skill, or just dumb luck, they happen.

Having played a mounted archer, I've still to find out whether you can score triple damage hits in hand to hand combat on foot. Yet, it would be nice if both head shots and hits in HtH caused triple damage. It would provide another reason to buy a good helmet!

they certainly appear to. I've implanted my blade well inside the polygons of my enemy's head on more than one ocasion without breaking his helmet or killing him. Damn T2000.

Are hits locational? It seems to me that if you hit someone in the head, it uses their helmet armor rating, or if you hit them ni the leg, it uses their leg armor rating. If not, it doesn't really make sense to have the different armor ratings. If it is locational, though, it seems to replace the whole critical hit thing. I mean, if you see they're not wearing a helmet, go for the head. If their body armor is lacking, go for body shots. Plus, I believe body armor is generally more effective than hemets, so headshots will generally do more damage.
