Creating a Separate Party - What is the point?

Let me start by saying what I wouldn't give for a manual for this game.

Anyway, I got to Clan rank two which allows me to assign one of my companions to lead a party. I did this, gave her some troops off she goes....to do what exactly? So far all she has done is go grab a ton more troops and has completely depleted my bank wallet. I don't see any way to give her orders or any sort of task. I kind of figured she might go off and hunt bandits by herself and earn at least some income to pay for herself at least to some degree but nope. Since I can't give her any orders to do anything like follow me or hunt bandits or anything, at least that I can see, I just don't see the point of having an additional party. What am I missing?

Also is there any way at all to get any sort of passive income in this game? It is getting a bit hard to just keep my main party in income.

No idea about the seperate party thing, havent tried it

You can invest in workshops and caravans for passive income. Also, once you have fiefs you'll have a decent income through taxes.

If you look at the perk tree's it will help level their leadership, and allow them to use perks that require you to be leading an army, so if you want diverse builds, or to accomplish to goals at once having another party is valuable.

A companion party (btw use a companion with high tactics) can be summoned to your army for 0 influence, essentially lets you be a free army which lets you train leadership. But you must be a vassal to start an army. If left alone they will help other vassals fight off bandits (witnessed this) and i assume enemy vassals (did not witness this, mostly been in my army).

Start a caravan with 15K and a companion to start generating money. Once you get a castle

Workshops? Haven't seen this yet. Where can you find these workshops to invest in?

If you create seperate parties, you can call on them when you make an army, bulking up your numbers with your companion-led parties.

It's fairly expensive though  at about 14k I believe? So if your economy is struggling it may not be optimal for you right now.
