Crash to Nothingness

Users who are viewing this thread

Hey guys!

I currently play Mount and Blade (Version 1.011) with the Mod Prophesy of Pendor V2.0. In battles that take some time because the odd horseman refuses to be killed or something similar my game crashes seemingly randomly. I don't get a blue screen of death or an error message. The display goes black, but the music continues to play. I can't revive my PC via any key-combinations on the keyboard and have to reboot my PC. Afterwards I'm not shown any error message either. This crash doesn't happen in every battle and it mostly happens towards the end of a battle. Once the crash happened in a tournament, but except for that it exclusively happens in battles and sieges. I could play native without problems (at least as far as I recall), but I had some problems when I first played Mount and Blade with Graphical Enhancement 2.5 and the HDR-addon. The crash doesn't occur in the first battle after the start of a savegame, but only in battles after that.

I set ragdolls and bodycount (or how that's called) to 0, installed the latest drivers, but I still get the crash. I don't use the battlesizer and my battlesize isn't particularly high (240 I think correction: 51).

This crash is rather annoying because I have to retreat in every battle to save, so that I don't loose my entire progress if the crash occurs. Unfortunately my allies can't understand the necessity of this and think I run from the battle due to cowardice. Duh.

I searched some threads but found none that helped me with my crash.

My system information:
Operating system: Windows XP Home, Service Pack 3

Hi I am also getting a similiar crash with 1.011 and the 1257AD mod installed.

First time through the game ran fine without any crashes, but since then it has gotten progressively worse.

It started off crashing in the training field. Blank screen, unable to reset.

After about 15 tries I turned off AA and managed to play for about an hour before I had my second battle with looters, again blank screen, unable to reset have to power off/power on.

Now it won't even go past the main menu, when the menu loads, I am unable to choose any options and within the a few seconds the screen flickers then blank screen, monitor goes into sleep mode.

All other games work fine, and my systems temps are 31 degrees.

This is one of the best games I've come across, I just wish I could play it. :(

Try asking in the mod thread to see if anyone else has similar problems. If it's not happening in native, then it's something the modder has altered. It may be the mod has increased the load on the machine to the point your PC is preparing to collapse, it may be they've screwed up a script or trigger.

I believe that it generally happens when I use mods. It also happened with the Graphic Enhancement mod and HDR-addon, so I don't think it's a problem due to changes made by the PoP modding team. Also I think that if my PC where to collapse because of e.g. heat, I wouldn't be able to still hear the music. Nonetheless I'm going to post it on the subforum of the mod.
