crafted item piece , scale_factor used to effect weapon length/range, now it doesn't ?

I used to create long 200-400 length weapons that were fun to use. Recently coming back to the game, i am doing the same modifications to the XML (just changing scale_factor of the blade).

The graphics still work and it looks cool, but the actual weapon reach is still only... 112 or so. Basically making the large weapon useless. When i attack an enemy it wont hit them until I'm very close.

What am I missing ? how do I affect weapon length now ?
