Crackling sound

Been having a problem with the rear speakers. The rear speaker sound crackles only when I am near a lot of my troops during the victory celebration or when the men grunt during battle. I've had the sound crackle so bad that the sound completely shuts off for a few seconds. Once, it stayed off until I restart the game. This is the only game I have this problem. I am playing native. All drivers including audio are up to date. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

My setup:
Intel QX9650 4GB DDR3 RAM
PNY 480 GTX
Creative X-FI Xtreme Gamer
Win 7 x64

Since downloading 1.31 I have the same sound problems.. but its crackling and distorted in all my speakers.  It appears to only be this game so I am at a loss with how to fix it.

I've also been having problems with sounds since going to 1.130. I'll randomly get a short burst of loud buzzing & occasionally some sound effects don't play. Haven't tried fixing it yet.

Currently using a Creative X-fi card with DTS surround going to an amp over SPDIF, it worked fine with warband 1.127.

I have sound issues, With the horses tho. if I hit "R" than it sounds like the hoof hits the ground every 8 steps and its a quick snap, if its out of first person and in third than if I look some directions with the mouse I hear nothing, if I look others I hear the whole team on horse!

Wat are your vid cards? The only change I made recently was going from 280 GTX to 480 GTX (gotta love raising the battle size). Can't remember if it happened before or after. Don't really want to open case and switch it out again.

Mines a very crappy yet I run pretty high with DTX7 but a Nivida 1650SE.. I bought it off a friend after my other one catched fire :0 but prob gonna buy a new one soon.. when ever I get the money... it wouldn't be a graphics card issue tho. Its their coding... I think a middle school script kiddie can write better script then these people...

It just migrated to all the speakers now. Very frustrating and annoying. Hopefully the next patch can fix this.

New symptom. Sound got cut off during a large battle right after crackling like mad. Then sound cut back in and for the duration of the game, the front and rear speakers were switched. All sounds from the front played in the rear speakers and vice versa.

Try re-wiring your speakers. Sometimes you get this, when the speaker wires are shorting.

I originally thought this too, but the wires are fine. Also, Warband is the only game that does it. I have quite a few others that play fine in 5.1 without issues.

Just wanted to hop in on this discussion, I to started having this issue just recently.

It has been fine for a while but when i clicked on the multiplayer button the sound issue started and the crackling quickly drove me nuts.

I have attempted reinstalling the game, updating drivers and checking the wiring on the speakers.

All other audio works fine via the speakers.

One thing i did note was that when i plugged in my USB headset the crackling went away and the audio is fine.
I tried changing my speakers from 5.1 to stereo but no change, so for the moment my solution is to just play with headset on.

I'm also having this issue as well when I play warband.  It doesn't happen in any other game either, only warband.

Audio card wise, I have a Creative Titanium Fatality X-Fi Pro.  I tried lowering the audio quality, thinking I was hearing the imperfections in the audio files, but that didn't help.

It didn't always happen either, only recently.

EDIT: After much "tinkering", I've found the heart of the problem.  In the mount and blade settings file, located under (User/Documents/Mount&Blade Warband), there is a settings file called "rgl_config.txt".  In this file is a variable called "use_winmm_audio".  By changing this value from 1 to 0, the crackling was gone.

I'm not quite sure what this value is, but if someone could explain it to me that would be useful.  That is, the "use_winmm_audio" value.

Jucius_Trio, just wanted to say thankyou. I'd been getting reververating sound, and changing the config setting solved the problen, you're a legend.

Good luck with yours, Kilmar, I fully sympathize.

I been having a difficulty with the side speakers. The backside verbaliser uninjured crackles only when I am neighbour a lot of my force during the triumph ritual or when the men grunt during effort. I've had the channel noise so bad that the enounce completely shuts off for a few seconds. Once, it stayed off until I preserve the strategy. This is the exclusive occupation I somebody this problem. I am performing human. All drivers including frequence are up to affiliate. Thanks in supercharge for any suggestions.

If you're experiencing problems with cracking sound, try:
- lowering sound quality (48khz into 44.1 khz or 22 khz)
- lowering sound acceleration (one step at a time down to "basic", if I remember correctly, its in control panel - sound)
- switching to 2.1 sound instead of 7.1/5.1
- obviously, updating sound driver if you haven't done that yet

Hope this helps and you no longer experience any problems :)
