CPU not strong enough to run the game, options.

The human eye sees about 30-40fps. So you wouldn't even see 200 FPS, the default max limit. But it's still frames being calculated.
I'm gonna have to disappoint you, but that's a myth.
Low fps like the one that is used in movie theaters only works with motion blur. In reality, humans can detect anywhere from 300 to 1000 fps. Depends on the human of course, but it's not all about the fps. I read somewhere that a fighter jet pilot could identify an aircraft in 1/250th of a second. That means that just to notice it, he has to have a higher fps perception. Anyway, there is still a lot of debate on this, but I can assure you it''s not as low as 30 fps. We would not need monitors that are as good as they are produced today and games like For Honor definitely prove this.

Graphics card is the problem. The minimum is 2GB of video space. My processor and ram are similar to yours and it runs the game fine with 4GB card. You can most likely get a used 4gb graphics card for 50 Euros from somebody that upgraded or if you can have two 2GB cards also on the cheap

Just curious, do you have an SSD? I have a good 4gig graphics card and I stutter regardless of how my graphics options are set up (same frequency of stutters on max and min). I'm pretty convinced its the combo of Windows 10 + 8 gigs ram + having an HDD. Knowing what your Harddrive type is would shed some light on my theory. (Ie if your using an HDD with that amount of RAM and good performance than my theory is off, unless you're not on Windows 10).

Well RIP. Still, when the game is practically dying and near unplayable, constant 40 FPS are still better than nothing.
(I guess my eyesight is just not good enough to tell when my FPS is low.)

Besides there's plenty of other tips here, pretty sure something with the settings can be done to make the game playable at least.

Its just the game. I thought it was my RAM as well, so I replaced it. Same issues. Had wanted to do that for a while as well. My game used to be smooth, now its laggy, and slows to a crawl. I dont believe its because of game progression, just changes to the game, that aren't optimized.

I wanted to avoid buying more ram, since when I buy the new motherboard and CPU, I'd buy ddr4. Thanks for the advice, I might do this.
I know that feel, we are in the same boat ahah, although my pc is better than yours it still has ddr3 and i was literally angry at buying more ddr3 ram + ssd, but i went from 20v20 unplayable to 60 fps in 200vs200 campaign and 20 fps in 750men custom sieges. give it a shot if you can even though buying up to date stuff would be certainly better.

your setup is not worse than mine and I can run the thing pretty smoothly on medium settings (i think my graphics card and cpu are maybe half a year ahead of yours)

Some things to try before giving up altogether:
- in the settings, set the audio channels to low, bc many pcs use the cpu instead of dedicated audio cards
- in the settings, set a fps limiter. i capped mine at 30fps. I know some peopel are severely bothered by so little, but some limiting might still help
- disable bodies lying around
- though it seems odd, i found my cpu does better with max battle size - I found my pc handles it better when many units are loaded at once, as opposed to continually spawning in reinforcements

edit: if you have access to a ssd, definitely try installing the game on one. it's helpful
I'm just gonna ask a dum question, when you guys says access to a SSD, do you mean one to instal in PC or could an external storage one be plugged in and the game moved to it? I'm pretty sure you mean installed in the PC but I just gotta ask since I have external storage one but I don't know if I can put anything else into my PC.

upgrade to ryzen 1600af version it will cost you roughly 180-220 USD. 100$ CPU 50$ MB and ram 8GB is 40$. This game can utilize more than 8 cores and 16 Threads so its your best bet for a budget.

Hello, I am not a very tech savvy person and I don't know a lot of tricks when it comes to hardware.

My specs are
CPU Intel Core i5 3350p 3,1GHz
GPU Nvidia GTX 660 2Gigs
8Gigs of ram ddr 1200MHz.
Windows 10

Now, my cpu is not strong enough to run the game without stuttering, which is a shame since I've been looking forward to the game since they announced it. Buying one is not an option because I would then also have to buy a new motherboard with it. This is a huge issue since I am from a country that has an averege monthly salary of 400 euros and even buying the game in these COVID 19 times put a decent dent on my budget. Do I have any options besides buying new gear? Is it possible to overclock this CPU to the point that it runs somewhat smooth on lowest settings?

I know that this doesn't have a lot to do with the game, but if possible, does anyone have experience with this? How much worse is my CPU compared to the minimum requirement of Intel Core i3-8100?

Again, sorry for posting this here, but I have nowhere to turn to for hardware advice regarding this particular game.
You can't overclock a 3350P. But your CPU looks like it should be able to run the game, albeit barely.

How are your stuttering? Is it a burst of constant low FPS or is your game freezes up once in a while when you have decent FPS normally? If it's the latter, maybe it's your RAM and SSD.

If you can't buy new hardwares, you'll have to turn to solving the problem with your softwares. Try game boosters like Razer Cortex, or use MSI Afterburner and overclock your GPU and see if it helps.

The speed is still limited by the transmission over usb BUT it's worth giving a try. The game ran a bit finnicky on my external HDD and I noticed a difference upon reinstalling on the ssd. But it wasn't unplayable or anything, so an external SSD technically should be helpful

That may confirm your theory i do have an SSD. Wasn't even thinking about it

If you have a fast-speed USB connection/cable, it'll be an improvement over an HDD. I find there are solid benefits to having your OS/Windows installed direct to the SSD versus just storing programs on an SSD, but anything is an improvement over just an HDD

patches are coming for a lot of performance issues. One suggestion is to play MP and/or custom battles , as the campaign takes more from your computer and wait a few weeks for bigger patches.

I mean you could probably built a significantly more powerful PC for under $500.
Less if you reuse some components.

Also my income there days is jack crap as I just part time enough to keep myself fed/clothed gaming. Probably average $800 US a month and I wouldn't bat an eye at dropping a couple grand on a decent PC.

I've never bought that. I can immediately tell if FPS drops below 50. So either I have magical powers, or something is off with that.

This latest patch seem like it is more taxing on the CPU. The CPU usage is noticeably higher now than before.

Some one please answer this question. Could we just get an SSD externally just for this game? BTW not a dumb question!

Ahhh good advice! I had no idea software could help. The funny thing is, when I use Geforce Experience, it optimizes medium settings. Stuttering when entering towns, fights, even when moving on map when changing direction. The kind of, I can run the game, but stutters at every point that unless you have the patience of a saint, it's unplayable.

Anyway software seems like a good advice. Thanks.

I actually have "made" an amazing pc using a website, but still need to buy the parts:
AMD Ryzen 5 3600 3.6 GHz 6-Core Processor
ASRock X570 Phantom Gaming 4 ATX AM4 Motherboard
Team T-FORCE VULCAN Z 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 Memory
Asus Radeon RX 580 8 GB ROG STRIX Video Card

Problem is, I need to save up a whole year to buy a new pc. I'm not much of a gamer. I don't buy new, popular games. I thought maybe cyberpunk and bannerlord but that's it. Dropping a grand is a fifth of my yearly salary on a pc. You have to understand that this is not an option for me.

The parts mentioned above are around 500 dollars. I have a great power suply that goes... 700 or 800 wats. Not sure. And a good case and 2 hdd drives. These parts are reusable, along with the cooler. So I am already saving up 300e by not buying these. I might be able to drop more money on it if I could buy these parts over the year/years, but that is not an option: more ram means new motherboard, new cpu means new motherboard, and from testing, they aren't even the biggest prob, it's the gpu. So GPU should go first. Then motherboard and CPU and then RAM.Sorry for the long post but that's my dilemma. Otherwise I'd have bought the GPU and not spammed the forums xD

That's why I asked if there are any other options like overclocking. I got a few good advice here and will try them out as soon as I can.
