Converting files into .dds format

Sorry if this has been asked a million times, I did a bit of searching and found nothing directly relevant so...

I have IrfanView, a program which converts files from .dds to other formats, and I use Paint Shop Pro 8 for editing (can't afford 9, although I know it's been out for a while). It seems that IrfanView can't convert files back to .dds, however. Does anyone know of a (preferably freeware) program that does this? Otherwise texture modding is impossible

i dont know a program, but 1 word, bittorent you bought one of their things, now you dl the next at least thats what i do...
