Another idea: Pets,

Warhounds or other animals you could set loose on the enemie army to keep them busy as you form up.

Warhounds sound realistic, would be nice although seeing a dog jump up and down in front of someone attacking isnt gona mke it morre realistic unfortunatly

I agree with most of this idea. The hunting of wild game would be an interesting addition, as hunting was right up there with jousting, fighting, and extorting taxes on a medieval nobles' list of favorite things to do.

Some interesting ideas in here guys, good thinking..

If we could build a Kingdom from scratch, it'd be nice to see the Fiefs expand along a sort of Tech Tree if you will...

Hamlet -> Village -> Settlement -> Town -> City
Camp -> Outpost -> Field Fortification -> Castle (Wood) -> Castle (Stone) -> Castle (Stone Lvl 2)

The Hamlet would be simply two houses, one mill and one field
The Village would be the vanilla villages..
The Settlement is an expanded vanilla village with a few more building and a few stone walls or wooden fences around it
The Town would be the Vanilla Town
The City would be an improved Vanilla Town with more decoration in the streets to show wealthy living and prosperity

The Camp will look like the Camp when you Camp on the map, but maybe more than one tent
The Outpost will be the same as the Camp but with a small wooden Outpost Tower in the centre
The Field Fortification is the Outpost but with some ditches and a few wooden spikes and other defense's to hide behind
The Castle (Wood) is the Vanilla Wooden Castle
The Castle (Stone) is the Vanilla Stone Castle
The Castle (Stone Lvl 2) is the Vanilla Castle with more Archery Slits and defense's + training ground decor. Siege Tower only, no ladders.

I hope these are good ideas.

i'd like more building options:

we have: (taken from the wiki cause i can remember them all.)

*  Building a Manor allows you to rest at the village like you can at a town, and if you are resting there during pay day your men will only get half wages because they are not on active duty. Your party will draw food from the village during this time. A manor has a base cost of 8000 denars and 83 days.
!suggested improvement: it could increase rate village population rise (going with the suggestion of they grow eventually)

* Building a Mill gives your village a one time prosperity increase of 5%. It has a base cost of 6000 denars and 63 days.

* Build a Watch Tower if you have problems with parties raiding your village. It makes the village take 25% longer to be looted, giving you more time to come to the rescue. If you succeed in stopping the looters the damage normally caused to the village's prosperity will not occur. If your village is far away from enemy lands it will probably never be looted because there are always closer targets, in which case building this improvement is a waste of money. The Watch Tower has a base cost of 5000 denars and 53 days.
!suggested improvement: if your could garrason people.. archers could go in there small but would help with defending raids

* Building a School will improve your reputation with the village by +1 per month. Improving your reputation with a village raises the number of Recruits who volunteer to join you. A School has a base cost of 9000 denars and 93 days.
!suggested improvement: maybe the recuits start on the second teir of their advancement? would be nice to have a way to recrute someone at least a little more capable when your fightng armys...

* Building a Messenger Post will let you be informed about enemy activity near your village even if you are far away. The Messenger Post has a base cost of 4000 denars and 43 days.
!suggested improvement: send a message to your vassles or if your not king other vassles asking them to meet you there, i find it hell trying to find people at times.

my suggestions:
villages:
build wooden walls, limits where the enemy comes in and archers may gather start there.

build a barracks, allow garrson of troops if only up to 50 like i can be bothered all the time when im building my land up with "sir this place is being raided" constantly being able to have a small defence garrasoned would be so nice.

Training grounds: when you recruit people they have the experiance to go to the next tier, again if im against an army i want at least a small head start to who i recruit.

Towns:
Build stone walls: makes them have the stone walls most towns have,

Build defencive towers: nice high towers that a few archers start(if garrisoned) in and shoot.

Large baracks: increase garrison to 150

Build the things that are in most towns (tavern, armorer, arms etc)

Build a keep: where you can reside if your the lord there of if anyone else becomes lord there,
customise the keep!:
!Master bedroom: heal 50% faster
!Guest rooms: your companions heal 50% faster
!Dining room: so you can have feasts
!the keep should start with a room where you reside and meet people who are in your town,
!Decorate: puts up flags in the rooms with your personal banner thsat you chose rugs improve the look of the furnature, could be an aspect of the feast "Foods good nice variety alchohol too, guests wouldent much like being here though, etc"
!the keep should be more open so you can wander and look around it.

General suggestions:
at certain times during the building stage, every 20% of the time it takes to build it shows it being gradually build when your in the town

Guards! should only be in a town or city if there are any garrisoned, having none garrisoned could lead to more muggers attacking you.

If you raid a town or city do i want the hassle of keeping it under my protection? i should have the choice to just kill and pillage decreasing the population and having a chance to destroy building built there.

not compleatly related, depending on the tactics skill i would like to be able to place garrisoned troops during sieges in the towers i build, where on the walls etc, say every point in tactics counts towards 10% of your troops that can be tacticallt placed
so 5 points in tactics 50% garrisoned troops can be placed, and it should randomly remove them from being placed if you take them out, so no adding all you units placeing all the ones that stay there and removing them again so more then the percent allowed to be placed can, thats cheating >.> lol

Good ideas, I'd also like to see the building time split in half if you have the raw materials.
