Constant random PC reboots

Hello

The Problem:

As the title suggests, my computer randomly reboots while playing, and I can't figure out how to fix it. I have been searching the forum for several days, trying to find something that can help. Also, because of the apparently random nature of the bug, I can go for hours without a problem, only for it to sneak up on me just when I think it's fixed.

Now I say apparently random since there are at least one instance when it seems to happen with some degree of certainty: the training field. While doing the training it seems to occur just as I am about to talk to the Master Trainer. But the others seem totally random, and have so far corrupted two of my saves (one in the 500th+ day of game time  ).

My system:

AMD Sempron 2600+ Processor, 1.84 GHz
1GB RAM
Nvidia GeForce FX 5200, 128 MB

Windows XP Professional, Version 2002, Service Pack 3
DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904), latest Nvidia driver for my graphics card (I forgot the number)

What I've tried:

My first thought when the reboots started was that it was a virus, so I replaced Avira with Kaspersky 2012 Trial Version. It immediately found some problems and corrected them, and the reboots stopped for a time. When it happened again I did another scan but found nothing.

Next, I tried to search this Forum and got the idea to update my graphics driver. I'm playing it on a borrowed PC, so I really didn't know how the system was set up. I found that the Nvidia driver was an older one and I updated it. I tried the same thing with Direct X, but I think that's up to date.

I've also tried tweaking the graphics options in the hopes of finding a way to stop it, but so far no luck.

I've also tried changing the OS settings so that I would get a Blue Screen rather than a restart, but for some reason that didn't work. Instead of a blue screen with some useful info, I got a pure black screen. I've since re-enabled the restart.

The event log doesn't really show anything useful. There is indeed a system error around the time of one of the most recent reboots, but I've had about three in the last hour, and they don't show up. It's possible they are unrelated, but the error category is 102. I don't really know what I should be posting from the event viewer.

I don't know if this is affecting any other games, because I'm not playing any. I have very little hard drive space and since it's somebody else's PC I can't really go and delete random items.

My theories:

I played Warband (Native) a few month ago on my old PC until that broke down. Once it did, I gave my graphics card to a friend and when my laptop also broke down two weeks ago he gave me this PC, with my old graphics card in it. Since the last time I played the game the entire system has changed, except the graphics card. The first time, I had no such problems, so I don't think my graphics card is the problem.

I thought for a time that the Native Expansion mod was the problem, but I've tried Freelancer too and it still happens.

The next thing I'm going to try changing is the game version. When I played last time I was using version 1.126. Now I'm using 1.143 and it could be that this is the problem.

If anybody has any suggestions, please help.

Let's see: you have prehistoric graphic card, your OS is screwed since you're getting a black screen and system errors and you have a very little space on your hard drive which can slow down your PC while reading any file from your HD.
Last version of the game (1.143) is pretty stable and it shouldn't be a problem if it is properly installed, so your PC (some component of it) is probably causing constant restarting.

With only 1GB of RAM and 128MB video RAM, you're going to need to play on super low settings...and any mod that adds any number of items will likely overload things for you. If you are BSDing/rebooting, liking something is overheating.
