Conquest w/ more than two factions?

Will the engine be able to support more than two factions in a scenario?  I did some searching but did not find this information.

The reason that I ask is that I think that having three or four factions fighting over a conquest map would be intense and make the games take longer to resolve with each side having to take and hold multiple locations against multiple enemies who would also be fighting each other. 

As another twist I'm thinking that factions could gradually be eliminated and/or have their troops assimilated into the more victorious factions as the game wears on.
 
Awesome idea, but it's already been said a lot.

If the conquest mode was reversed(instead of losing points for your team gain points.) then I could see it working.
 
a 3 way battle would rock- but whats to stop two factions ganging up on one  (as would very likely happen if kergies are involved, seeing as they are bitterly hated by many players)

IMO there could be a whole new gamemode for 3 way battles, with some scenario set up to avoid in-game-politics,  ie:  one faction defending some flag/artifact/cake and two others competing with each other to steal it  (so the defenders HAVE to fight both, and the attackers HAVE to fight each other)
 
It might actually be more fun if sides could gang-up. 

Maybe even an official truce feature where they would agree to not attack each other for a specified period of time.  But if anyone from either side did attack their temporary ally the truce would be off and could not be re-established until the same number of troops on the offending side had been killed.

Even when cooperating, there might be a tendency to stand back and let your ally take the losses, since they'll soon be your enemy anyway.  And there would always be the temptation to backstab your ally while they are busy fighting your common enemy as well.  Bad for honor, good for winning.

Or maybe in some scenarios there could be intended alliances, e.g. the caravan troops and the local militia against robbers.

There could definitely be some new dynamics in play.
 
Immagine the amount of "lost" arrows hitting your allies in the head ^^
Or some people who just happend to walk onto my sword...
