So, the problem; One night my ethernet card stopped working and didn't start working until the next day (tried it in the morning too). Since then my connection has been disconnecting every 60 minutes (give or take a few seconds) and automatically reconnecting.

I reported this to my IP, no change.

The card is called NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller (integrated into nForce 3).

I have no router, the VDSL modem's type is: Cisco 575 LRE.

I think my ethernet card is somewhat broken because it refuses to take any changes in the options >> everything results in an power shutdown (even disabling the card).

Soo, I was wondering if there's anything to be done system-wise (could there be something else causing it? Tried running virus scans; no traces found.) before buying a new card for my rig (if that's gonna help that is).

Tried reinstalling the driver? Is it shutting down the entire system or just the card when you try to change something?

Do you have a coax network, in the olden days, I had one, and it worked like the grounding (which wasn't present at that house. It fried my network card every year, give or take a few months. I measured it at 143 volts once (doing something with the network did sting a little)

It shut down the entire system. Tried reinstalling the drivers after which the card refused to work altogether (I had to install it twice because on the first try it made the computer crash in the same way as earlier). Picked up a new one today for 10€. Thanks for the help everyone.

Well now that I have a new ethernet card the fundamental problem still persists; The connection is severed every 60 minutes or so (it seems to be every 60 minutes counting from start up of my system or the start up of the connection. It starts up automatically after not working for like 2-3 seconds. The connection is DHCP based. I've tried ****ing around with the settings (tried putting it onto 100/half and 10/full) no help there.

It was that when the problem started. Could try re-enabling it though.

Has your ISP sneakily introduced a 60 minute cut-off by any chance???

Sounds suspicious whatever it is. And for a new card, too...

Update: tried out a new (borrowed) modem (same model). The problem persists.

edit: Problem solved; Uninstalled my firewall and the problem was history.
