Connection problems

Contrary to popular belief, posting about how annoying it is and complaining about it won't make it go away.

Posting here about having the issue is unnecessary, Janus already stated that the server wasn't strong enough to handle the load and that it wouldn't be a problem once the new server is up.

I get it occasionally, though, around midnight GMT it keeps me out for about an hour or two...Just like now.

I know it's a pointless whining thread  ...Especially since Janus said it'd be checked on.

all that worked in the afternoon (about 3 hours ago) was the home page, the threads kept giving me "connection problems."

This heightened activity is hardly surprising, in the weak leading up to release. Especially, so close to GDC.

Hopefully, it'll die down a little, straight after release and we can enjoy the calm before the storm.

Maybe we should ban a few hundred people. That ought to take the pressure off the server

Hmm.

Would it be possible for you to, say, set up a list of forumites, and then sort them by both postcount and date last active?
And have it so that, for example, if their last online date was, say, before January 2007 and their postcount = 0, then they'd get deleted from the forum?

Or would you have to do such a thing manually?

Wouldn't it though reduce the amount of bandwidth or whatever needed to sustain such accounts, allowing more to be used by the active ones?

Keep in mind that I really have no idea what I'm talking about here.

To put it simply, the bandwidth is used by accounts that are active, sending requested pages to them and receiving replies etc. The inactive accounts merely sit in the servers harddrive and consume no bandwidth at all, due to not needing to send/receive information to/from them.
