To get back on topic:

The *only* way toi get more traffic to MBX is to remove the taleworlds forum. Deffinately.

The modding community is just too small to warrant for 2 boards, and casual posters, people that are more interested in the game itself than mods, just ain't going to MBX.

It will just continue as it is. Some of the big mods like TLD will draw enough traffic and attention. Most will die of abandon though, and many will eventually move back here.

Let's get a few things straight. MBX is not in any danger of shutting down, and will keep on going as normal. We are planning several projects that will eventually bring in loads of traffic, and until that happens we'll just go on as normal, helping modders who have questions and discussing with anyone who wants to drop by.

Really, it's a modding forum, and anyone who wants to mod won't find a better resource anywhere else.

Statuesqely,
Winter

I predict a Yoshiboy+Fisheye+Winter mod about super sonic dolphins vs lasergun sharks in Tarantino style gore flick... or something completely different.

Did I get any close?

ROAR!

For curiosity's sake, care to enlighten us on the subject?

Not really. We remain under sworn secrecy.

Apart from the whole supersonic dolphin/lasergun shark thing. I guess that's out of the bag now.

Except here.

. . . No, not really. This place doesn't even come close ever since MBX was formed.

Implicitly,

There would be an enormous problem with deleting the modding board though. Imagine all of the casual, not-so-good English speakers being forced to register on the MBX forum if they want to post comments.

Many would get banned. And where would they post about mods when they're banned? Well, there's no modding boards there any more. Perhaps they'd post in Zendar town square. Imagine that. Eventually, there'd be so many modding posts in Zendar Town Square that they'd need a modding board again. There we are, back to square one.

Agreed. The help section of mbx is very well organizised. TW's one is nothing compared to it.

Also, if, for example, TW had the same policy as MBX, I would have been banned on my very first post. (Lack of grammar, excessive use of smileys, lols, plz'es and the likes.) thus no Fantasy Mod, no Star Wars mod, no video tutorials / written tutorials, no building pack etc.etc.etc.

Morale of the story: It's not because they're nooblets when starting out they can't change and grow some half decent intelligence, and become a forum-veteran like any of us, possibly even make a mod and stuff.

Heh, me too.
Even on MBX most users get a warning before getting banned. If I had been given a warning for using horrible English when I started, I would have changed that. The people who do not care get banned. Not a problem for me.

I think at that time then and there, I simply didn't have the skills and understanding to use decent English. Doesn't mean I was to stupid to pick of moddeling and such, though.

yeah, that is the thing about the english stuff. If someone talked like a lot of these guys as a 30 year old english speaker, that is one thing. If they are a 15 year old from russia or somewhere that is another story.

I voted yes. I like mbx's stricter rules much better. ESpecially for modding. Its a great forum, but I jsut recently moved my mod to TW, because almost no one was viewing my topic.

To my knowledge we've never banned anyone for simply bad English on account of being a foreigner. Take for example nema from the Guardians Party mod -- I can rarely understand a word he says, but he's quite welcome on the forum. We're even considering his mod for an upgrade to subforum.

It's mainly the leetspeakers that we take issue with, and we only ask that our posters make an effort, not to succeed perfectly every time. For example, jlgx50 was an MBX member for some time before he quit. He put a lot of effort into trying to comply -- you've got to respect that.

Vivaciously,
Winter

In my personal opinion, I think that mod discussion and traffic is way, way down because there are no .... like .... mods? Some mods have been in development for almost a year, with nothing but a checklist in the original post to show for it. I think that if modders took an Agile programming view of things, there would be more interest in mods.

Let's get some work out there. Most people do not want to discuss a mod for six to nine months and not play it. Release small. Release incremental. Release often. Get something into the player's hands. Really, as a player, I don't need all 400 new models and textures to be 100% completed and historically accurate to like the mod. I just want something new to play. I'll take 3 new items and a little different story/gameplay. Then I'll take 4 items next incremental release, plus a new quest. Then, I'll take 2 new items, another new quest, and a new town a week later.

For Band of Warriors, I did two thing news: eliminated the Party Skill penalty which I hate dearly, and added a merchant, tavernkeeper, armorer, and weaponsmith to the castles. *bam* new release. I got it out there for the people to play. Now, people have something new to play.

It depends what you are doing. For a mod that is close to native this works. Making a full rpg like BE, it doesn't.

Also, there is so much garbage code in native that I feel starting over is best. Otherwise you get idiotic errors like merchant updates are giving the player extra items and crap.

The "Agile" release is pretty much a failure for a lot of projects. People won't play the same thing for a 6th time if the change is superficial. I didn't play v.808 of vanilla for instance.

EDIT:
TLD is a big exception because the mod has huge replayability...but anything more linear like Storymod or RPGmod really won't cut for many replays.
