Yesterday I was playing Assassin's Creed II and out of a sudden my PC shuts down instantly. I press the power on button and nothing, it won't turn on...Again and again. So I opened the case to check for loose wires and all is connected fine, and the Motherboard also had its green lights on before I flipped the Power switch of the case to do so, as well as the Ethernet cable connected to the back of the PC. I had cleaned the entire thing recently.

So when I flipped the Power switch back up and then the power on button with the case open so I can see if anything is going on, and I noticed a light flashed right next to the Power on button for a split second and the fans of the GPU and Motherboard started its movement for a second but stopped immediately after, and the PC didn't turn on at all, and then the second time I pressed the Power on button it didn't even do that anymore, I repeated the process and it seems that it only does that short light and fans rolling right after I flip the power switch off and on, the first time I press the Power on button. So yeah, I'm clueless what this means. Any ideas? Cheers!

PSU is blown, doesn't supply enough juice for it to run. Call up a friend, to bring another PSU and test it.

Use duct tape.

Seriously, do what Jhessail said. PSU is you first bet. By the way, what system specs do you have? And what PSU?

Yeah, I was pretty much 100% certain it was the PSU acting up in some way as well... Thanks for the tips guys.

It seems to be working fine now, basically I felt desperate and started cleaning up dust very methodically with a brush especially in the CPU and in a spot below the Motherboard, and also tried to plug in harder the pin that attaches to the Power on button while pressing the power on button at the same time to make sure it was perfectly connected. Not really sure which of these was the main reason to make it work again, but I then flipped the power switch on, tried to turn on the PC and it's working again... Either way it was associated with power.

Wasn't overheating since I have temperature measurement software and it was more than fine. In fact I think the biggest issues in this computer are associated with dust. It's a Asus Vento A8 case and it's built to maximize air circulation, but it has the disadvantage of accumulating dust faster due to some holes. I clean it regularly, but I guess it can accumulate far more dust when I go for an entire day or almost 2 without turning on the PC, throwing off the routine cleaning.

If dust is a concern you could get air filters for either the case or the fans. Mine has some underneath the motherboard to avoid this issue.
