Computer Speakers

So my uncle buys one object for everyone in the family the winter they turn 18. My cheap speakers died this summer, so I thought this would be the perfect chance to get new ones.

I've been looking around a little, but am no expert when it comes to this. The only one that convinced me at a first appearance was the Logitech Z-5500 but they don't seem to make it anymore.

Question is, if you could ignore the price, what would you buy? Mainly for gaming purposes, so surround sound would be cool.

Why do you need fancy speakers for mainly playing games?

Well, they don't have to be that fancy as per se. Just durable enough to not die out immediately and have a relatively high quality sound. Which would be fancy compared to what I've had before.

I've been using regular earbud headphones for 3 years now, they work great. My laptop's speakers are abysmal.
