Sergeant Knight at Arms
So, my computer had a major virus problem, and I reinstalled windows, formatting the hard drive, and doing the clean installation. Windows should work properly now, but it doesn't.

If I change the screen resolution, the screen goes blank until the resolution goes back. I changed the background, and the screen went blank, didn't come up again and when I rebooted the comp, the loading screen came up fine, but after that when the login screen should have been the screen went blank.

I had to reinstall again. Now I am stuck on 800x600 and my sound doesn't work. My computer says that I have two screens attached, and I only have one.

Does anybody have any ideas?

Couldn't you have tried a full system restore? Revert everything back to factory settings? It would've been a better solution.

Have you installed video/sound drivers? Windows could be using a defacto VGA driver which will limit your resolution.

If your sound card is integrated with your motherboard (as most are these days), you will need to install chipset drivers. You're best off going to your motherboard manufacturer's website and downloading the latest drivers from there. If that fails you should have receive a CD with the mobo.

System specs?

Okay, I installed some drivers off the mobo disk, and the sound works, but nothings changed with the screen. I downloaded the driver, installed and nothings changed. Any ideas?

What video card are you using?

nVidia
ATI/AMD

If you downloaded drivers off of your motherboard maker's site you would have received drivers for the integrated GPU which I doubt you're using.

Got the answer on another forum. I had to change the settings to 60 hertz, and it looks to work perfectly now.
