Computer geeks, I call you to arms! Error no one seems to know.

I have had this error for days on end.

5 cyan bars with 7 stripes  go down my computer. You can see through them, but they make everything behind a dark blue. If I try and pull up a game, a random error will come up, such as DirectX DSK or something else I have never heard of before. I have scanned for viruses and found none that couldn't be dealt with immediatly. I switched monitors, turned it off and back on, made sure the graphics card was in a tight fit, but nothing. It also seems to to make scrolling down choppy. I am hesitant to call for a system operator in case they state out something I, or in this case you guys, could find out, free of charge, as we do not have enough money right now to pay for an operator. I also updated my graphics card, worked for a day, then went back. Tried to repeat it again, no dice.

I will thank all of you greatly if you can find out what is wrong.

BlackArbok is obviously joking. 8400 is very old (released in late 2007). No one would buy that today.

But it would be interesting if you had a second graphics card to try out and see if that was causing it. Could very well be...

Really depends on the price.
Find one in your price range and search for reviews.

I would suggest making one hundred percent sure it is your video card before buying a new one. It probably is, I have trouble imagining anything other than your video card causing that sort of problem, but better safe than sorry.

Also, try re-installing DirectX if you haven't already.

Yes, might want to reinstall DirectX. That's the problem, not your graphics card.

Hmm, I thought it only affects games? He's having that stripe problem all the time, I think.

Sounds exactly like a video card problem, you can probably take it to someone to diagnose it.

Nope, sadly. But I have another card lying around somewhere... in the rubble of my house : /. Either way, I am going to best buy to get a new nvidia one. Not picky, just want one that can support M&B

same thing used to happen back in the day with my oldie-but-goodie 7900GS. I had to change it. sorry, mate, sometimes you just have to part ways.
