Computer Freezes

Sorry if this is the wrong place to discuss this , but i'm having a really annoying problem with my PC lately.
Sometimes (twice a week or something) my computer freezes 2 minutes after starting up when in windows and this repeats after you reset it. The weird thing is this doesn't happen all the time only sometimes. Starting up a game or program that eats a lot of memory somehow prevents my pc from freezing when this problem occurs.

Specs :

AMD Phenom 9550 2.2 ghz
4 gigs of memory
ATI 3870HD
samsung spinpoint 500gb
using windows 7 64bit atm

Anyone here have a clue about what might be wrong  ?

I know what's wrong. You got an atraversal bios bug between your graphical card and your motherboard. This sometimes happens with that particular model of ATI cards. Try opening the computer case and removing the graphical card. Then reboot the computer, make sure there's no loose wires. Now, windows is on right? You need to go to the control panel, find the "visualization assistant" and double click. Go to the tab on the far right, called "settings" or "definitions", not sure how they translated it to english... There, click on "Trouble shooter" or something, it's left of "Advanced" button.
Now you just need to put the graphical card back in. There, it should be perfect now!

Hope this helped ;).

Thanks alot! i hope this will solve it. I'm afraid i can't tell that soon considering this bug is totally random.

No problem ;). Although if you do that now it should solve the problem for good. Try it, once you're done tell if it worked (there's no reason why it shouldn't).

My computer freezes if motherboard temperature drops below 42 Celsius. I need to keep several programs open all the time so processor has something to do so temperature wouldn't drop too much. In fact, my fan is trying to kill my PC even right now by blowing air with max 5825 rounds per minutes when it is trying to cool it :x

When I want to start my PC I have to blow hot air with hairdryer inside computer box and warm the memory areas. It's kind of annoying, but at least that works.

Just felt like sharing.

Did you try putting cotton in the air-fan axis? It slows the thing down and makes it cool the components less.

Interesting tip, I might try it if need arises. So far I have removed extra fans and blocked some ventilation channels. Earlier it crashed when it got below 40C, now it's 42C, so could be I have to increase heat at some point. Can't have it warm up too much either, that will crash it too!

Although I hope I can afford new computer before I have to tweak this one again :)
