Computer brainiacs! Help me! (Medieval 2: Total War installation problem)

Hi brains, I have a problem.

I'm installing Medieval 2: Total War, but when it asks for disc 2, and I obey, it tells me that demo_mtw2_campaign.bik isn't on disc 2.

Well, it isn't on disc 1 either, so what do I do?

I have installed it on this PC before without problems, this is the first time it won't work.

Yeah.

I tried looking through the files on the disc, and it seems it's been very damaged.

It's very odd, since it doesn't look very damaged.

Just a thought.... a really crazy thought.... feel free to tell me how STRANGE and INCONCEIVABLE this idea is.... but wouldn't a MTW problem be better posed to a MTW forum? Because, you know, if the game doesn't work as it should, there are people... like developers or tech support... who can give you advice?

Well, it's not like they get paid for it or something


Try copying the contents of the disk to the hard drive and see if it starts *****ing. Might want to try cleaning the drive if you have the equipment for it, or else checking it is the disk and not the drive fecking up.

Could mebbe copying the image of the disc and loading onto a virtual drive? Not sure if that would help though, if your cd/dvd drive isn't seeing the file in the first place...

It should happily run the install from the hard drive without mounting. Question at the minute is whether it will copy across or complain about read errors.

You could try simply downloading the game off particular websites.

I guess that would be legal, seeing as you own the game and all

Well, the disc is utterly farked it seems.

A lot of folders are missing, and some of them can't be opened.

Maybe you can install with someone else's cd, you need only the first for playing if I am not mistaking

When I have a scratched disk I just take it down to the video rental place and ask the lady to clean it. most video places have one of those machines which takes a thin layer off the disk and leaves readable. just remember to copy the entire disk to your harddrive afterwords because it can make the disc fragile.
