Computer boots after exiting M&B (After updating to .704

Hello.

The problem is that everytime I exit M&B my computer reboots. This problem appeared after applying the .704 patch. I bought the game when M&B was .6xx and have used patches to upgrade it from that to .704. The odd thing is that sometimes when I alt+F4 M&B it still makes my computer reboot.

I have the latest drivers for my graphics card and also the latest DirectX. I have also ran Memtest86 and it has not found any problems. My graphics card is a Geforce 6600GT and I have a 2.0 Ghz Celeron with 768 megs of memory. I'm using Windows XP Home with service pack 2. My WinXP is up to date because I use the automatic update system daily.

And some offtopic requests: Could you please make troop commands actually work? So the "Hold this position" command actually makes my troops hold that position. They won't move, but do defend themselves. It's really annoying when Borcha, Marnid and my other mounted units rush towards a group of enemy archers and die in a heart beat.

Hey Todo.

The crash on exit is a known problem. Hopefully, Armagan can figure out exactly what causes it and get it fixed.

I must say a huge 'thanks' for your informative post. It is nice to see someone that starts out with listing their system specs.

Have you tried uninstalling, deleting the mount&blade folder, and doing a fresh, full install? I don't know if it will help, but as it is the only thing that you haven't tried that I might be able to suggest ... I'll suggest it.

I haven't actually tried a fresh full install. Haven't had any reason to do it until now. I'll try that later after my little brother's time's up and I'm able to use the computer that M&B is installed on.

And posting system specs is just a polite thing to do. So the first 5 post aren't about people asking for my system specs.

I did read a few posts from the bug report section and customer support to see if anyone else has this same problem. I did find a few posts about this same topic but I wanted to make my own topic because...I'm so self-centered.

Polite, yet self-centered ... all in one little thread.

When you do a freash install, if you would, update this thread on whether it worked or not.

Good luck and thanks,

Narcissus

The uninstalling-deleting-reinstalling didn't work. Still my computer reboots after exiting M&B. It doesn't matter am I in a town or not. Nor does it matter if I select exit or save&exit.

And an offtopic question: Does the Mount / Dismount order still make the game crash?

And sorry replying took so long. After doing the fresh install and starting M&B I got addicted again and had to make a new character and play a while. The game's way too addictive.

Go to control panel.
Choose system -> advanced -> startup and recovery

Under the system failure box, uncheck "automatically restart"

Click OK.

Instead of rebooting, you should get a BSOD error message. If you could note down the error message and post it here it may prove helpful.

Well, posted this on another BSOD thread, but to reiterate...

My random BSOD and reboot on exiting M&B indicated "splitter.sys", which is the "Microsoft Kernel Audio Splitter".
I had been running WinAmp in the background while playing Mount&Blade, so I now make sure to close it before exiting Mount&Blade. Haven't had a problem exiting M&B since, after maybe 15 exits.

I have an Audigy 2 soundcard, if that helps.

Mine is just the opposite. Since installing .704, my computer reboots when I try to run M&B
I did the upgrade, which rebooted when trying to start M&B. So i did a full intsall. When I double click on M&B, my computer still reboots. It did not do this with .703
I am trying to come up with a solution...no luck so far

Sounds similar to the problem I reported in this thread. I will update it with some more information.

PS: Soylent Green - now I get hungry

I have been experiencing the reboot problem when I try to launch the game. I'm not too sure about yours, but for those of you getting the crash/reboot on startup, I found that if I reinstall the game everytime I go to play, I can at least play through the initial tim after install. It's a bit of a pain in the arse, but at least it gets it going until (hopefully) this problem is fixed.

Only error I could get from the screen was:

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.

I don't imagine this will be a big problem, as I plan to re-format in the next few days anyway... but maybe it'll help to track down the overall issue.

That message is usually caused by bad drivers.

Try updating the drivers for the graphics card, soundcard and motherboard if applicable.

It's also known to occur if a card has come loose from the actual slot, in which case reseating the card will resolve the problem.
