Complete incompleteness

So...I'm no hacker or computer wizz by any means, and I feel like I'm moding and tweaking and patching this game more than I am actually playing it. Just started a new game using the Diplomacy mod cause it has a lot of cool things. Spent some time adding all the mini-mods I had already added to Native cause they made the game cooler and it takes me a while cause I've no idea what I'm doing so I have to read all the instructions 3 times. Now there's a new patch out, which I'm sure probably isn't compatible with my Diplomacy savegame and probably overwrites some of the mini-mods I installed as well.

If I install this patch 1.123, is it going to overwrite all those itemkinds.txt, sounds.txt, module.ini, texture etc. changes I've made installing the mini-mods? What's compatible with what? Should I just completely uninstall this game and install again once everything is finally compatible and bug free? Can someone compile all these mods into one big **** off file so I can't **** it up?

*sigh*

If it makes you feel any better I just repasted a crap load of stuff into the new module system and now people are saying the new version is sloppy.  Hopefully a new version won't jack up my module.

I know it's the same situation for everybody and it's awesome that the game is so easy to mod and improve. If you're good at that, that is. I for one would like to play this game out of the box the best it can be, but I'm starting to realize that'll never happen. I guess I'll just keep my fingers crossed that some awesome person puts it all in one big mod for us software challenged people.

The only mods I've got are some minor changes to a few faces so my options for a wife aren't as horrible as they would be otherwise,  bridge battles which don't spawn the bridge as of 1.123, Companion Overview, custom recruitment so I can get my own faction troops, and of course, custom troops.  So all in all it's not too bad.

I wish there was some tool to help port modules between patches but that's probably a lot of work.

Any mod that uses it's own subdirectory and therefor requires you to select it in the M&B launcher won't have its .txt files overwritten by a patch to the native game. Only changes made to the Native game files will be overwritten. Your diplomacy mod will therefor only be affected by core engine changes and not script game play changes (i.e. the text files).  It is possible that core engine changes could break mods using previous version script files, the only way to know for certain is to try it out.

I've got like 5 mini-mods. I wish it was just throwing them all in a 'Mods' folder and it worked. I've screwed up a game cause I changed something that wasn't supposed to be changed, I guess, and had to delete everything and start over =/

There are so many i don't know which ones to pick. I'd like all the ones that don't change the game but just adds more options, items, horses, graphics etc. User friendliness please! =)

But if you want your changes in the newest version of the files, then you have to paste them in right?

Also I had to dump the new native into my mod because some file was missing and caused a crash on load.

Haven't installed the new patch yet but I will later. Already looking forward to the crashes and invalid files and useless savegames...

I can't imagine savegames from a mod made for a previous edition will work. I'm using the Diplomacy mod, which is for 1.113. No idea what difference it makes, but I'm sure it does.

My save worked long enough to not work when it didn't find an item I had modded in that was on my character  Which is about 1 second after I hit load.

LOL. Yeah I installed one mod which added some horses. And apparently removed others, because when I loaded the game I got red spam on the screen and all my companions were riding air. Looked hilarious, they floated around real fast with their legs apart. I was almost tempted to keep playing as an alien race.

If I install it somewhere else how will it work with the game? I'm assuming I'm not downloading the entire game one more time, but just a patch? I think I'll just take my chances and install it. If it doesn't work I'll delete everything and start over. It'll be faster for me to play the entire game up to where I am now than mess around with **** I don't understand.

*shrug*

Perhaps if you made a thread asking for help compiling several mods, there are plenty of people here to help you out....
Hell, if your list is awesome enough, I might be willing to compile them for you and send you a Rapidshare link or something...

Now that would be friggin' sweet bro! Since I got the game on Steam I wasn't given much in the way of choice installing the patch, but it all seems to be working.

If you really do have the time to help a computer retard like myself I'll be the first to take advantage of it!  I'll go check which mods look good!

So here are the ones I currently have installed and like:
Diplomacy 2.0
More Metal Sound Mod
More Warhorses
More Horses
Minimod - Reworked Armors
Better Banners Mod
Arena Overhaul mod
And then I used to have one which added the village elder to the village main menu, but I don't remember what it was called and it doesn't seem to be working anymore.

And these are the ones I've been meaning to add:
OSP Warband Item Variants
Thel's Facepack
The Chocolate Box Mod
Utrehd's Castle Pack (not sure if this one actually works as it appears to be in some testing phase)

If it's really possible to compile all those into one simple-to-install mod, I can't thank enough.

Yeah, it seems like a lot of work. I know people spend a lot of time on these mods and it's awesome (when they work). I'm not too fond of the ones that actually changes the preset values of armor, weapons and the likes. That's subjectively changing the game mechanics. Adding more options is cool, though.

I wish I could help, but I'd more than likely screw it up
