Sorry about the big blocks of text, there's quite a bit of stuff between the red numbers that have to be updated and the actual meeting code.  The module system code I used here can be found in my post back on page 34 if you're interested.

Edited to correct a bug in the code.

I'm confused. Do I need to be concerned with the blue stuff if the red and green stuff is present in my file?

Heres another one kind of related to the quest timers one. If you turn down a mission, the game sets a slot of that troop to not give you any more quests. For lords and ladies, this is fine - every 36 hours it goes through and resets them all to 0. But on village elders, theres no trigger to set it back - so they will NEVER give you a quest again. This tweak simply changes the check that's done to throw off the thing and make them always offer you quests. It can be done for lords & ladies too if you like, but they sometimes have penalties associated with turning down quests other than just not giving you one again for 36 hours - so you probably wouldn't want to keep asking and turning them down anyway.

Open up conversation.txt and do a search for
1 540 3 144115188075855885 20 1

That should find 3 instances total in the file. The first is under lord_request_mission_ask, and that deals with lords. The second is under lady_ask_for_quest, and (obviously) it deals with ladies. The third is the village elder one - village_elder_request_mission_ask (which is the one that I primarily made this tweak for). You can change just one or all three, whatever you like.

All you have to do is change the 1 to a 2 or 3 or anything but 0 or 1. I just set mine to 2. What this does is: When it tries to go to that conversation, it checks for the slot to be set to that number. By default it's set to 0, and when you turn down a quest it sets that slot to 1 - so the default 1 makes it come up once you have refused a quest. If you set it to check for 2, it will never come up because nothing ever sets it to 2. And if that one doesn't come up, the next one does - which is the one that actually offers a quest.

This script doesn't seem to present for the village elder in 1.011. But it's there for the Lords.

Thus you can then refuse a village elder quest without making him stop giving you quests forever.

This script doesn't seem to be present in 1.011 for the village elder...but it's there for the Lords.

Im making my own mod, using some of the file tweaks here, and i have it all ready to go but when i try to play it it shows an error for the scripts.txt

im not sure why. i tried replacing it with the one from native, that worked just fine, but i kinda want the tweaks in there... can someone help?

btw... the tweaks i put in there have no errors to them so i dont know whats wrong...

Hey Eddie, the only reasonable thing could be that you made an error. You changed something that shouldn've have been changed. Always use the search option to find the specific line, and double check the numbers. If you rely on your eye alone you are bound to change something that you shouldn't. i had the same problem once, M&B wouldn't start after some tweaks, so I ran a process of annihilation, checking everything I changed, and eventually I found out I changed something in the wrong line.

ive kinda given up on it, i searched and searched and searched until i went through every line of code that i could have possibly changed and everything is fine. i think its some sort of compatability issue since im using brf files for .960. i didnt really want to  remake them for 1.011 so i just used my old ones. ill need to make new ones but i dont want to...

Here's how to change how much you get per prisoner

Change the 50 to whatever you want and you're good to go
It's savegame compatible and works if you set it so that the inn keeper can buy prisoners

Is anyone working on a way to make this tweak work for 1.011? I sure could use the added revenue.

Is there a tweak to get better loot from battles, especially Lord's stuff? I couldn't find an answer with search, apologies if this has been answered.
It's frustrating, you can knock out four or so Lords in a battle in Native, thinking 'loads of cool stuff, I like that armour' etc, then you get a few crap swords and shields when it comes down to it.
I've tweaked the chances of capturing Lords with MageLords excellent guides, so many thanks.
Just fancy that winged helmet, sure I've earned it, hehe

i dunno if i have the authority to post here, but here goes

for those randoms (like me) who wish to randomly duel lords without the relationship lost (i.e a friendly contest)

find this in conversation.txt:

dlga_lord_talk_ask_something_2:lord_tell_objective 69631 257  0 What_are_you_and_your_men_doing?  259  0

and on the line directly below, (it doesnt have to be, but for safety's sake), paste this

dlga_lord_talk_ask_something_2:lord_talk_ask_about_war 69631 257  1 2147484208 3 144115188075855885 8 0 Care_to_duel?  6  26 1 3 936748722493063319 144115188075855885 -0 2133 2 144115188075855899 1 4 0 33 3 144115188075856110 648518346341351443 648518346341351461 521 3 1224979098644774912 144115188075856110 16 5 0 2133 2 1224979098644774913 100000 2133 2 1224979098644774914 -1 6 3 1224979098644774915 648518346341351443 648518346341351461 2281 3 1224979098644774916 1224979098644774915 648518346341351424 2147483678 2 1224979098644774916 1224979098644774913 2133 2 1224979098644774913 1224979098644774916 2133 2 1224979098644774914 1224979098644774915 3 0 521 3 1224979098644774912 1224979098644774914 16 3 0 1261 1 1224979098644774912 1262 0 1263 2 0 360287970189639680 1263 2 1 144115188075855885 1911 1 792633534417207321 1910 1 1224979098644774912 4 0 2147483679 2 144115188075856039 1 2060 1 864691128455135264 3 0

the red is the line you search for, the blue is the line you paste in, and the green are the lines directly underneath the line you just pasted in

you can change the dialogue in brown to anything you want, it could be an insult, but thats for you to change
and the -0 in yellow is the relationship hit you get from the challenging the lord to a duel (originally -20 from the defend lady's honour quest), you can give yourself a relationship hit if you like, if you intend to mock the lord.

you can challenge them to a duel (amiably or otherwise) by saying 'can i ask you something', then 'care to duel?'

keep in mind this is a very brusque tweak which is bug free (i've tried it a dozen times), but when you're done you will get a message saying you have completed the quest, but ignore that, you dont actually get an award

also, if you want to challenge claimants, that can be done too:

oh, great!
but do I have to increase the first number of the file? I mean, on the very top

EDIT>
I find out that I don't have to
but is there any possibility to get rid of those "quest succeded" entries in journal?

there may be but i wouldnt know how, i suppose it doesnt really matter though does it?

one thing to alert though, if you lose, you will come out with low health and so will the lords if you win

for those who wish to make peace with kingdoms when they're rebel, here it is

look for this in conversation.txt:

dlga_lord_ask_pardon:lord_pretalk.1 4095 231  7 2133 2 1224979098644774912 0 6 3 1224979098644774913 648518346341351443 648518346341351591 2204 2 1224979098644774914 1224979098644774913 31 2 1224979098644774914 432345564227567629 2133 2 1224979098644774912 1 3 0 31 2 1224979098644774912 1 {playername},_you_are_a_{lord/lady}_without_a_master,_holding_lands_in_your_name,_without_having_allegience_to_any_kingdom._As_long_as_that_continues,_no_king_in_Calradia_would_accept_a_lasting_peace_with_you.  160  0

and paste this over it (overwriting the above with this):

dlga_lord_ask_pardon:lord_pretalk.1 69631 232  2 2149 2 1224979098644774912 360287970189639680 30 2 1224979098644774912 72057594037927952 I_wish_to_make_peace_with_{s4}.  231  0

this will allow you to buy out of war with enemy factions even if you're a rebel kingdom

note there will be error messages in red on the left hand side of the screen but it does work, pay them no mind

heres one for making peace with the faction you betrayed to become rebel king, WITHOUT rejoining them

find this in conversation.txt:

dlga_lord_talk:lord_ask_pardon_after_oath_renounced 69631 204  3 2147484208 3 144115188075855885 8 0 31 2 144115188075856074 144115188075855887 2335 2 4 144115188075855887 {s66},_I_wish_to_restore_my_old_oath_to_{s4}.  227  0

then on the line underneath, paste this:

dlga_lord_talk:lord_ask_pardon_after_oath_renounced 69631 204  3 2147484208 3 144115188075855885 8 0 31 2 144115188075856074 144115188075855887 2335 2 4 144115188075855887 I_wish_to_make_peace_with_{s4}.  231  0

so it will end up like this:

dlga_lord_talk:lord_ask_pardon_after_oath_renounced 69631 204  3 2147484208 3 144115188075855885 8 0 31 2 144115188075856074 144115188075855887 2335 2 4 144115188075855887 {s66},_I_wish_to_restore_my_old_oath_to_{s4}.  227  0
dlga_lord_talk:lord_ask_pardon_after_oath_renounced 69631 204  3 2147484208 3 144115188075855885 8 0 31 2 144115188075856074 144115188075855887 2335 2 4 144115188075855887 I_wish_to_make_peace_with_{s4}.  231  0

this will allow you to talk to any lord of the faction you betrayed and pay them tribute for peace, without restoring your oath

an error message will appear on the left hand side of the screen (the bit where kills and damage are displayed) but its nothing, this does work and is save game compatible

Since this is a quite annoying quest and people have complained about it, i've found a way to change the rank of soldiers needed in the capture certain amount of enemy prisoners, to get lower rank soldiers (easier to nick from caravans, etc)

Have you tested this?  Because I would be quite surprised if this worked.  The type of troop is set in scripts.txt, the {s3} just refers to it.  This should work though:

Open up scripts.txt and search for 45 1 2136 3 1224979098644774988 42

The game picks a troop type from tier two to tier five.  45 refers to tier five troops, 42 refers to tier two troops.  Changing 45 to 44 and 42 to 41 will make it choose  a troop from tiers one to four instead, for example.  Adjust this as you wish.

Here's how to change how much you get per prisoner

game_get_prisoner_price -1
11 21 1 1224979098644774912 2133 2 72057594037927936 50 4 0 33 3 144115188075855885 360287970189639821 360287970189639831 2171 2 1224979098644774913 1224979098644774912 2133 2 1224979098644774914 1224979098644774913 2105 2 1224979098644774914 10 2107 2 1224979098644774914 1224979098644774914 2108 2 1224979098644774914 6 3 0 2075 1 72057594037927936

Change the 50 to whatever you want and you're good to go
It's savegame compatible and works if you set it so that the inn keeper can buy prisoners
which folder is this in?or file? menus.txt / scripts.txt etc.

and I have 1.011, would it work with mine?

I applied many tweaks listed here, and my game crashes on startup. I may be retarded and put something in wrong, but to check, are all of the tweaks 1.011 compatible? If not, I have work to do *sigh*. I put about 55 of those tweaks into a copied Native folder.

Here's another quick and simple one.

Enabling the option to refuse to let your companions quit.

Open up conversation.txt and search for dlga_companion_quitting_response:companion_quitting_no
There's a string of numbers after this that should look like this:
69631 107  2 31 2 1 0 31 2 144115188075855903 1
Change the 0 to 1, and next time someone wants to quit you should be able to play hardball.

Lord Zed: Does it give a specific error message?  It's possible something isn't compatible with 1.011, or you may have made an error somewhere.  It's best to do things incrementally and check they work so if there are problems you can narrow it down to one or two possibilities.

Has any one else used this to learn to mod? It was a great help, trying to implement some of these tweaks via the module system. Thanks for that.

Hardrada: "Mount & Blade has encountered an error and needs to close. Any information you have may be lost. We are sorry...etc, etc."

Also known as: all that time spend editing all those little numbers, and no end result still. I might just cry.

And yet again: How does one use the "module system"? Is it just going into the module folder and tinkering with a copied Native folder, as I have been doing?
Or are there more sinister arts at work?

The module system can be found here. You'll also need to download and install Python. You'll probably also have to do a little tinkering with the environment variables to get the batch file to run. More help with modding can be found here.

Mostly, modding M&B involves editing a series of lists. These lists are used to generate the text data that you see in your Native folder. Might sound complicated. To me it looked really intimidating as well, but the basics are pretty easy to get a handle on, particularly using TML's tweaks as a reference.

EDIT:
A tip: always keep a clean version of the module system handy. Also, the first thing you'll want to do is change the path in module_info.py to the desired mod folder.

this is to change how much renown you get for winning the tournament:

open up menus.txt and search this:

the red bit is the renown you get if you win, change it to whatever you want

this is to change the size of the moral lost when recruiting prisoners:

search this in menus.txt:

mno_camp_recruit_prisoners_accept  1 32 2 144115188075856028 0  Take_them.  5 1216 2 144115188075856028 144115188075856029 1610 3 648518346341351424 144115188075856028 144115188075856029 2122 3 1224979098644774912 -3

just change the -3 to whatever you want, (-0 would be no lost of morale)
