Competitive Random Plains, Calling all map makers!!!

So basically my own Mount&Blade map making skills are absolutely horrid BUT

I know some of you who may be reading this have amazing skills that if well used could really help the competitive community

Now to address the issue... Random plains

Everyone would like these to be more fair right?

Well as it stands most Random Plains map winners are determined by who has the MOTF spawn which usually spawns in the same location (which usually favors 1 team over another) the entire map and that makes for one sided matches that are not fun

I believe if we take the initiative and make some good and fair plains maps with several MOTF spawns, hills (but not cliffs), rivers (some with, some without), trees (all kinds minus the trees with invisible walls), etc

Now as I just stated no one really likes those trees with invisible hitboxes OR dare I say it those completely invisible trees (yes they exsist and the legend is true)

But lets try to keep this short and to the point, here is a list of issues with current random plains that could be fixed if we make our own plains

Issues:

MOTF spawns are usually one sided (I have seen the motf spawn literally right beside the spawn of a team)

Random Mountains (I don't even need to say anything here)

Way to many re-rolls (I have seen up to 13)

Huge gaping valleys with rivers at the bottom?

And once in awhile there will be maps with hundreds of small rocks that will stop horses

The plains highly favoring some factions over another with the addition or subtraction of simple things like trees and hills

And sometimes the boring wait to see where the random motf spawn comes and "the rolling of the dice" to see if the map and motf favors your team

Now I know some of you will disagree with me and I cant please or agree with everyone, but if you have ideas about how or what we can do to make our own Plains then please post and post your thoughts

Because ideas are where creation begins, so lets get thinking  :wink:



 
Those pronged/forked trees are a nightmare, always drawing you in with the advantages of standing in the middle of them and then BAM you get stuck. This has happened to me on two occasions.
 
I WOULD DO THIS....if i could make maps. So someone who is good at doing this get it done so we can play plains in peace.

Good idea, you could say FBTR fills that niche but its got a lot more than fields.

So you're basically thinking of something that is equivalent to a really balanced random plains roll? Or something with more detail/personality?

Yes exactly

Its just too unbalanced and frankly too random

In a sense we are already taking out the random factor to an extent by allowing re-rolls

It depends on your point of view, because one could view the current choosing system in the US as custom
 
So, it's all good and nice and I hate glitchy Random Plains rolls as much anybody. But you have only detailed the issues -- not the requirements for the new map(s): e.g. how many hills, how deep should the rivers be (if any), how steep their banks, how many trees, how dense should the forests be etc etc. So, be specific please (not saying I'll do that, 'cause I've had enough with all the rage from ROCK, thankyouverymuch).
On a different note: does anyone know if generation of Random maps is specified in the module system? 'Cause a better way would be to just fix the module then.
 
Would there be multiple custom plains maps? I think some clans/teams pick random plains for different purposes: all cav, archer/cav, mostly inf in some cases, etc.

I'm basically wondering--were maps to be made--what type of plains they would be. Also, would there just be a single pre-made plains, or a number of them to accomodate different kinds of gameplay?

No one needs to answer any of my questions, btw, just kind of thinking out loud via post.
 
I was thinking like at least 3 different types of plains, but 5 or more would even be good still

1 rolling hills w/ trees

1 w/ a curvy river and trees and relatively flat

1 with limited trees and hills mostly flat

I dunno there are so many possible combinations when dealing with plains, anything would work really I think it could be a lot of fun
 
Could those plains be kept as random, but the randomizer system be modded so that they'd be more playable?
 
One issue that should be addressed are the map edges. They're not very clear, and when you're dealing with open maps that can be an issue. You also don't want teams to camp the edges of the map as a counter to cavalry, because it's cheesy. Unfortunately on some random plains rolls that's the only option you have unless you play a cav-heavy load out. So you'd want to make the map(s) more friendly to diversified load-outs. No cliffs, but not flat either. A version of the map with a river bisecting it along a diagonal between the spawns would be interesting. You could even go one step further and add scene props like bridges, farmland (with hay bales and whatnot), fences, etc. That would give you ways to counter cavalry without humping a map edge.

Putting bridges in vicinity of MotF spawns with slightly steeper river banks around them would limit the dominating map control of cav-heavy load outs. I'll throw out some more ideas and make a couple of over-head layout designs to post here later.

I also voted "no" to the poll, with a stipulation: there would have to be more than one or two "random plains" variants to choose from. If that's available, then I'm for it.

@ Marnid, Yea it would be ideal to have several different variations of plains, different amounts of trees, hills etc

Also FBTR has cliff texture, re-roll  :cool:
