Compass?

Perhaps this is just me, but I'd appreciate a directional indicator on the main movement screen; I get lost easily. Additionally, I've been introducing the game to other people, and it is difficult to give people directions when you're unsure exactly where north is. As far as realism goes, I'm aware the compass may not have been invented/perfected/in common use at the time period this game is meant to represent, but it doesn't seem like too large a breach of historical accuracy, and I would really appreciate it in the game.

What do you think?

that sounds like a good idea. It's amazing how upside down I get when I leave a big fight or a town and I have no idea which way is which, and this is with the fairly small map! I can only imagine what it would be like once they increase the size of it. The only way I find where I am now is to look for either the Saltmine, and the Zandar river.

It occured to me that the same thing might be useful in the tactical battle map, especially if the AI is changed so that units no longer automatically know where the enemy is. Either place you have the compass, however, you would have to make sure it wasn't too disruptive of immersion; perhaps you could have a hide/reveal compass key, so you wouldn't have it floating there when you're fighting the enemy, just when you're searching them out.
