Was this part of a patch notes I missed? There all ridiculously priced that I find, like 9k to 17k?

Sounds like something else that need to be modded. Otherwise only the rich can have companions.
Not all of them are that expensive, so far I have heard of 17g, and 11g, as the most expensive, seems seems like the better their stats the more expensive, but I have also got a couple companions at 1300, and 1800. I love how some start alot lower level though and you can customize them! It might also have to do with their starting equipment and level!
Yeah after about going through 15 of them some one came along that was reasonable early game lol
Yes there are some that are ridiculously expensive for no good reason, really. I found one that had her name highlighted in green despite me never having talked to her, I couldn't look her stats up in the encyclopedia.(Maybe it's a bug? I don't know.)
When I went to hire her she told me she had to pay her debts first, and her price was like 6800~... I noped out quickly, no brainer!
