Companions leaving on a whim?!

does anyone have a list of compatible companions? this is one annoying feature i dont understand why they didnt remove.

I have indeed paid a guy to tell me where he was. I did know where he was but didn't go find him.
I lost him in Sweden. So i guess that's not it.

Did you wait many days before you paid him to tell you where he was?

I forgot how long because i just gave up on him. Now i want him back though.

http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/topic,168281.0.html is the closest thing I know of right now. Not sure if the OP is 100% updated/accurate or not, but I've not personally noticed any inaccuracies so far.
