I was using 7.04 and everything worked fine, then I loaded the 7.10 patch, and realized i couldnt play my old game, so I wanted to go back to the 7.04 vers. Maybe I messed up in running the 7.04 patch instead of uninstalling and installing again...Which I have now since done-- my problem is that when I click "Start new game" or try to load a saved game, my system reboots with no explaination or error message. Any ideas? I tried system restore and that didnt work either.

Welcome to the forums, milkjake.

Changing versions by running the upgrade and then the upgrade patch from a previous version over that ... sounds like a bad idea to me.

Rather than give you any mis-guided advice on this, I'll wait and see if someone that understands things a bit better than I do can offer help.

Good luck with it,

System restore only affects core Windows files and device drivers, not installed software.

If I read this correctly, you've basically applied the .704 patch to version .710? This has likely corrupted the M&B installation.

The first step would be to back up your save game - move it out of the game folder and on to the desktop.

Next, uninstall M&B. Delete the folder afterwards.

Now, download v0704 full install from this link.

Install .704 and move your savegame back into the save directory. You should now be able to restore your save

* if the above link doesn't work, try this link.

Sounds like the best way to salvage it is to get the full .704 installer, then install it to a different folder than default (change the folder name to "Mount&Blade.704" or something). Copy your saved games from the screwed up installation (everything in the "Savegames" subfolder) over to this new installation. Then, delete the folder with the screwed-up installation completely.
Then you can run the full installation for the newest version (.711 now), and change it's installation path back to the standard "Mount&Blade" folder. This way the two can coexist peacefully. You'll need links to each separate one though.

Whenever a new version comes out, I actually get the full installer and install it to a new folder. I have .701, .704, .710, and .711 all installed on my computer.

Looks like Archonsod beat me to it though.

thanks! I actually tried that and it didnt work either, but I installed 7.11 and it works great so far, I wanted to restart anyhow after my kidnapped girl wouldnt leave my party. All the more reason now.
