I have seen this asked for in multiple places around the forums, so I want to tag this note in an area where people will see it.

I know that many in the community are excellent map makers, but rarely find opportunities to have their maps made publicly available for play on a solid, 200 man server. Well due to the generosity of the 1teGarde, the 1tes Westfälisches Infanterie-Regiment now have a server and are wanting to do just that!

Our server is 1tesWfs_Public. If you would like to have your map hosted on it, please send me a link to the scene file and the terrain code and I will look it over and put it up ASAP. With any luck, within a week or two we will have nothing but player-made maps going! If you want to see the lineup, please check the list on our Server Thread.

Now all of you go get to map building! :wink:

Great Initiative, I'm glad this will get started even without the Devs. :smile:

Quick question, will the map be running any specific gamemode, or will it be battle?

Definitely a good question. As of now, it is set to run Team Deathmatch. However, we may regularly change this. Maybe have a weekly poll on what people want or something..
 
Great idea, I've been looking for a server that does community made maps for a long time. I always saw a map and thought it was great, then remembered it will almost never be played. Made my day, Kegger.

Great idea. Probably best  to have it on battle I suppose. You might want to limit the rounds aswell, so people don't have to wait 30 minutes for the next map, etc. :wink:
 
I Agree With Svensson, Battle is Better than Team Deathmatch. As with Officual Eu 1, maybe the maps would cycle after 5 played rounds. Oh, And Before I Forget, Should we Reserve Maps to Remake, so we dont have 3 guys working on the same original map?

Everyone makes a map on a different way. So it doesn't matter anyway.

I didnt mean it like that. I dont know that much of what happens after the map is done, but wont there be problem of there are 3 maps called, for example, "Avignon(Day)".
 
As long as we have the scene file and the terrain code, we can just rename the scene file and it should be alright. Gokiller - you're a bit more familiar with this than I am. To ensure that things like nighttime don't carry over when we replace a (night) map, will we need to copy over the entire part of the scenes file? Like all of this:

So the rest of that info doesn't carry over? I wasn't sure if the whole "Nighttime" effect was in the scene file itself or in the text file.
 
I got a work-in-progress map I've been working on for quite a long time. I will let you know when it's done. :wink:

Sounds great! Thinking about working on a custom line battle map myself.


Well, I'm pulling a "Number of passages for site 256 exceeds 16" error whenever I try to locally host to look over maps.  Just going to back up all my modules and reinstall. Its not a huge game so hopefully it won't take too long. I'll get back to checking the submissions and putting them up afterwards.
