Hello, new to this mod, but long time 1257 AD player. This mod looks fantastic and is a great change from the norm of mods for Warband.

Just wondering, are there any plans to expanded the map and settlement count? My idea (and just an idea) is that following what the modders (DrThomas, Othr, Kuauik) of 1257 A.D. did by adding in Manors for each settlement, these manors would compliment your map well.

Each manor could be a specialty village ((i.e. stables, armorer/weapon smiths, dojo (training ground), monastery (monks), farms (veggies, rice, cheese, etc), fishing villages (by the coast or on a river), hunting log (furs, hides, meat) pottery, etc.)) all strewn across the map to add variety and fill in the map a little more.

Anyway, just an idea. Keep up the great work.

There are two troop trees, one is the normal ashigaru one and the other is the ji-samurai/retainer one. I only realised this recently but lords will hire you based on renown (or something), so unless you're recruited as a ji-samurai or above from the start, you'll never be promoted to one because the troop trees are seperate. Hope that helps.

Anyway by the time you're at that level you can usually start your own army. Why sit in some lord's army as a crappy ashigaru when you can ride around massacring ronin?

I think it's at least partially based on noble heritage.  As the only time I've managed to get a starting character hired as a Ji-Samurai without any renown was when I started by going through the whole Ji-Samurai track.

And as for a reason?  Get hired by a doomed Daimyo.  Get the equipment.  Then go massacre ronin and bandits.

Yes you are right, it has to do with heritage, my last character's father was a normal soldier. While my current character's father was a samurai so i got hired as a Ji-samurai

regarding this:
from the tweaking i've done on my own it looks very strange in large battles when the smoke floats up, even by a tiny amount. the smoke mesh is this round puffy circle, and when its gravity is set to anything above -0.01, sieges and battles involving lines of gunmen look silly, because you get this guitar-hero looking sequence of blobs floating up forever.
maybe you've done this already, but imho the gravity setting on gun smoke particles should be 0, maybe with a tiny amount of turbulence. really adds to the battlefield atmosphere when lines of gunmen have smoke just sitting in front of them.
also just for lols, if you don't value your rig, try turning the fade time on gun smoke to around 30 seconds. it's almost game changing when you have to charge through thick smoke to capture a castle or hack a line of gunmen to pieces.

The only problem I have with the gunsmoke lingering around is that it's an obstacle that purely applies to the player, and not to the AI, which is capable of simple shooting through the smoke in its usual fashion. If it affected computer-controlled troops equally, so that accuracy decreases when they're shooting and their vision is blocked by it, or you could use it as a cover to move melee troops up to attack gunner ranks, that would be cool. But all it does is punish the player, while letting the AI be.

Oh, oh, another thing for next version that I don't know if it has been talked. With Freelancer mod you have implemented, when a lord recruits you for your group, if you say him inmediatly "i want to retreat from service", the lord instead of getting annoyed with you goes happy, your relation with him grows a lot and you even get a lot of experience.
Is this a bug of and old version of Freelancer or simething?

I believe you mean "My Lord, I humbly request that you release me from service " It's perfectly understandable that they wouldn't get angry, you're not taking anything from them or betraying them, you're simply leaving their army and giving them the equipment back.

Tho I do agree that it gives way too much relation (about +20) and shouldn't give any at all because it can be easily abused by becoming their retainer and asking to be released again for another +20 relationship repeat for max relation in less than a minute.

I agree, I did it for one of my characters just to see. I've enlished as retainer, sell all my equipement, told the lord I wanted to leave, and repeated it until he was absolutely devoted to me !  It was fun but quite strange

Dear dev,

I have run in to a little anoying proble. Whenever I die I can't turn the camera so I can't watch the rest of the battle without moving to a weird angle most of the time I die looking up in a diagonal line and have to move a fair bit back to see the battle. Just wanted to adress it,
I love everything else about the mod

You use the numpad. Even the numbers in the corner turn the camera at a dutch angle, which you'll need anyway because of how awkward the turning is. Or if you're like me and want to be all cinematic with the camera sweeping across the battlefield after you die.
also note that in 3.0, i implemented the mouse in the deathcam finally

there's going to be a slowdown in gekokujo development for a week or two -- there's a layoff threat at my real job so i'm going to keep busy and make myself look more useful

How do i get lords to join my kingdom?

And what are you guys favourite archers and cavalry?

You can send an companion (via minister) to try to get a Lord to join you.

The easiest way is to have a (or more, of course) town without any owner/lord, sooner or later a Lord will join you.

Archers? Upgrade the companions or my main char  . For the troops, I prefer the Oda Samurai Hatamato unit, man do they shred everything.

About cavalry, like in vanilla with the Sword Sisters, the Elite Onabushis are fantastic (even not so strong as the Sword Sisters, IMO), after that Ronin Cavalry and Hojo Hatamoto cavalry... As always, a smart upgrades companion is much better than several of those Hatamoto units, even now after 100s of hours I still need to remind myself to specialise the companions (e.g. this one is the medic, this one the pathfinder, this one cavalry, this one archer etc.).

Okay so I have been tweaking this mod for a while and things are starting to get a bit crazy and a bit illegal, I thought other people might like what I'm doing so I've took a few screenshots to show.

This is the Kaga Ikki faction, I've changed all the armours and created two new classes.
557y.jpg
In this screen you can see ronins on the left (which are some of the top tier troops) and expert ashigarus on the right (I renamed the spearmen to ashigaru sorry bro). The flags on the back vary between units.
fz6g.jpg
Here are the ronins up close so you can see the details on the armor and kabuto, I made all the models from scratch and they're definitely NOT from a game called Shogun 2:TW
d98y.jpg
Here are the monks, I thought this mod needed a proper headcowl model so I've made this one, it took me AGES but I finally figured out how to make it hang onto the body and also cover the head (the game engine is a ***** for this). Also the body is an adaptation of an existing wonderful armour from another modder, I only changed the waist which was way too low and looked weird.
dgoa.jpg
The most trained monks have large shoulder pads which are called sode, they were already outdated at the time but I thought they would give them an ancient and unique look since warrior monks are very traditional in their equipment.

There are also some other models but it's late, maybe I'll show them tomorrow. If the author is interested I could upload the files for the mod, otherwise I will keep working on this for myself. Greetings.

If you guys liked the screenshots above I've uploaded the mod to the internet. It's here:
