Commander Is Mounted

I keep all officers mounted for speed on world map.
Some are typically put in command of infantry or archers, and told to dismount as soon as battle starts.
There is red text that says, "Commander is Mounted" on these, in the oob setup.
Is this significant?
Do mounted commanders, leading foot troops, forfeit their infantry and archer command perks of their troops because of this? The red text makes it seem as though they do.

It means they will ride alone like idiots straight into the enemy because their men can't keep up. Their bonuses still apply as long as they are conscious.
