I think deflecting instead of just blocking is already a thing look at 4:52
Even though the attacking weapon is also a 1h he kind of deflects it to right by pushing his sword up-right cross after two swords clash.
Same animation probably applies for against 2handeds too.
And that is chambering wich is also implemented in warband.
And you never block an attack in real life, you deflect it. So I think Roccoflipside gave the right answer.
