Combat Announcement Question

During combat there are these two announcements:

New Enemies Have Arrived
and
Reinforcements Have Arrived

What is the difference? I've noticed that a lot of times when 'Reinforcements have arrived' - nothing changes. Like a few minutes ago -- me against 6 river pirates. I got both the 'New Enemies' and 'Reinforcements' announcements.

Do they mean the same thing.. or is reinforcements supposed to mean people have arrived to help you, rather than kill you? And would I be correct in assuming that the announcements appearing when nothing happens is a bug?

Reinforcements does refer to your team, but it's buggy. I've seen the message "New Enemies Have Arrived" when all three of my enemies were already in plain sight in front of me for quite a while. It's not a major bug; it usually works properly.

I have never seen reinforcements or new enemies show up in a battle I think it is just some idea Armagan is thinking about

The messages come up even if there are no new enemies or allies to spawn.

@ Sir Saladin: I've definitely seen it happen. They pop up out of nowhere, and all.

EDIT: I had to fix my English, it was awful *gag*

Yes, it most certainly does happen. It happens when, for example, your team has a total of 22 men, but only 13 show up in the "first round". Then, when enough have died off, the other 9 will show up.

Actually, this thread could become even more helpful than this. Has anyone figured out the algorithm for reinforcements? Such as, when they come in and how many? I'd like to learn how to use them to my advantage a bit more.

It means that the fighters on either side will get more reserve fighters coming in not reinforcements or new enemies that were walking by and decided to join in. That's all I meant, to me reinforcements don't mean the guys I already have.

AFAIK reinforcements come when a set number of your guys are dead or unconscious.

It also depends on the setting of the "battle size" slider in the options. Say it's set to twenty people max, and your 20-strong party engages another 20-strong party, there's 40 people ready to fight. But the game will only allow 20 people in for the start of the battle, so as soon as any side has suffered some casualties, "reinforcements" will arrive from the stack of people that weren't placed on the map at the start of the battle.

Which soldiers you start out with depends on the order they have in your party screen. The top brackets enter the battle first.

And yes, the game will talk about new enemies (opposing side) or reinforcements (your side) joining even if there are none

And I'd like to try and figure out here just what that number is.

On minimum battle size it waits until the last man standing before more troops appear.

On the highest setting I've seen it send in the rest of the troops while there were at most 4 guys left.

I suspect it works out at 1 guy left per 10 guys waiting.

There are two kind of events that launch these messages.

1. when there are too few enemies/allies on the field, new troops arrive and the message pops up.

2. there is only 1 guy on the other side. I might get many of those messages, if I'm in the battle alone. Obviously a bug. It has been around as long as I can remember, but it doesn't bother anyone.

Okay.. thanks guys. I was just curious. It doesn't bother me or anything.. I was just getting really confused by "Reinforcements have arrived" when I'm alone...

I figured it was just being buggy... but I wanted to make sure.

And no.. I haven't figured out what the secret number is, yet. I'll keep a sharp eye, though.

Seems to occur when about 3/4 of your (or your enemies) troops on the field have fallen. Obviously the exact numbers change with the battle size, so this would be my best guess.
