I saw someone named Orion afew hours ago and he seemed like a harmless guy. Although he was, in fact, impersonating an admin, I do not think he even knew it.

If you see someone named "Orion," inform them that is a restricted name reserved for an admin, and let them know they need to change it. For this situation, Orion is obviously a celestial reference, so there is plenty of room for simple innocence, but the player still needs to pick another name. Unless he was actively pretending to be the Orion/Marnid admin, then so long as he complies with changing his name, no action is needed.
So far I think the admins have reached a consensus.
We view the clan system as a private affair that we aren't involved with
Only circumstances that impersonating someone else should result in admin action is if
A) The player is impersonating an admin
or
B) The player is doing so to cause drama or grief to the general community

player hobo_bobo joins the server.
hobomember_x is upset because the player is throwing up his gang sign without being a part of the gang
Hobo_bobo doesn't talk or break any rules and plays the game peacefully.
bobo in this situation should not have any action taken against him, as he is not breaking any rules, and merely wants to be a part of our wonderful hobos.

player hobo_troll joins the server
hobo troll starts intentionally mocking other players by saying stuff such as "we hoboclan are teh gay and like teh ghey buttsecks"
hobo_troll may be kicked or banned, as he is griefing other players.
bare in mind, that although you might claim a tag first, such as the long standing CoR clan (court of rapists,) the tag "CoR" is not explicitly trademarked for Court of Rapists alone. What this means is, so long as you do not actively target this group to mock or grieve them, a player can use these symbols in their name. As a game grows bigger, you often see multiple clans have the same tag. If another clan springs up, for instance, Calling of Reapers (this clan is completely fictional at this point,) they may freely use CoR in their name without fear of an admin taking action against them.
Is this vague? Absolutely. This is just a guideline. If an admin has reasonable evidence to suspect foul play or trolling, he or she can take action
As Orion mentioned earlier, if you suspect that someone is impersonating an admin, simply, but respectfully state your concern, then start either a kick or ban poll on the person. If you see such a poll against any of these people listed below, PRESS 1! You read right, we want you to ban us!

the simplest way to determine a fraud is to attempt to kick us. We have admin mode, which protects us from such polls, frauds don't.

No, I've seen that Orion guy before. He's not me, but he's not disruptive either. Let him be.

I think it might be a bit prudent to wait until you have your own servers (or servers which you are already operating) rather than claim a copyright on said name and exclude people from it.
That's reason to ban him specifically, not to impose anything on people like me who like a laugh now and then.
That's usually the purpose of a tag, Swadius. Something to identify you as a member of a specific group. If two groups have the same tag, it leads to misunderstandings. It's easier to have different tags.
But then if someone comes into a server with the name nK_Imgay (I'm not making this guy up either) and proceeds to spout off obscenities, I don't feel inclined to sympathize with anything he claims. If he came in as Imgay and said the same stuff, it's still a problem. The fact that he decided to put on a specific group's label and parade around with his fancy pants further proves that he's out to piss people off.
It's like outlawing guns. You just get charged with murder and owning an illegal weapon.

Shouting obscenities and creating all sorts of disturbances is bannable as it disturbs the game, but I don't think a name is in itself a bannable offence. What is offensive is subjective, what the tag means is as well, and as a good and proper admin, benefit of the doubt should be the presumed.
Well, that's assuming guns are bad in the first place. Having an identical name is not necessarily so.
Should I direct you to XIII_ISLAMIC_PENIS, or something along those lines?
I don't find ISLAMIC_PENIS to be an acceptable name. I'm sure most Warband players would agree. Asking them to change their name is acceptable. If they don't, I redirect them to the menu where they can change their name. Kicking does that.

Oh, but sometimes people like a different name. Having a fixed name isn't my idea of preferable. Besides, you just get a new method of harassment. Instead of nK_Marnid, an imposter could show up with nK_Marned. Not too obvious at a glance, and easy to get confused later on when you're telling your friends about that total jackass Marned who kept trolling everyone and shouting out racial slurs and whatnot.
