In Progress Clan Does Not Count as Independent When Independent

Recruit
I recently completed seizing a settlement as an independent clan, and wondered why I could not found a kingdom. Checking the quest log, it did not have independent ticked. I have run several mercenary contracts without ever pledging as a vassal and am sitting at Tier 4, and married once before the wife died in childbirth.

I have a tier 5 clan, i left the Southern Empire as mercenary to fullfill the main quest and become a king, but i have the same issue.

Forwarding this issue to the QA team for further investigation. Thanks for reporting. In the meantime, can you share your save files? You can use a cloud service and post an open link on this thread.

I tryed as someone said: i joined a faction and then i left it as a vassal, i got the penalty for the relation but at the same time i got the flag on the quest for "Clan independence"

I had this issue before also, had to join a faction "not" as a mercenary and then leave it to resolve. It seems to be an issue if you have only ever had mercenary contracts without ever having joined as a Vassal. Pretty annoying since one faction will hate you no matter what at the moment.

I have a similar issue where I left as a vassal the Vlandian kingdom during the conspiracy quest. Now I am a tier 4 clan, independent, but unable to create my own kingdom (or if it’s possible, I don’t see how).

I had this as well. It only happens if you choose the path (Istiana or Arzagos) and get the create/support kingdom quest as a mercenary. If you get this quest after leaving the quest works fine and the independence flag is there.

The developers will be able to look into this issue if you share your save files.
Here's my save right before ending a mercenary contract with Sturgia. Create/support non-imperial kingdom quest has already been taken, imperial path can still be triggered - the clan will be listed as independent if you take it after leaving the kingdom. But in the non-imperial quest it will not be so.
The non-imperial quest can be fixed by leaving the employer kingdom, then swearing homage to any faction (tested on Sturgia and Battania), then leaving that faction again - relation penalties happen, but the clan is recognized as independent in the quest log.
The save file was made on e1.1.0, tested just now on 1.2.1 - same things happen

This is the third playthrough I'm having this bug on, seems easy to reproduce. Simply do the main questline while being a mercenary. After talking to Istiana or the other guy (or both) you get a list of requirements to create your own kingdom. One of them is independence - you need a tick on 'clan independence'. Now if you leave your mercenary contract, you simply will not get the tick. You can conquer all the settlements you want, but the quest won't recognize you as an independent clan unless you join a kingdom as a vassal and then betray them and leave.

For quest imperial and non-imperial. If you have a castle settlement you can create a imperial faction if you have a city then non-imperial. Did you check both of them? I had this problem too

It shouldn't be relevant whether you go imperial or non-imperial path in this case. The only problem is your clan state not changing in quest log after ending mercenary contract. The healthy way of doing this quest in it's current state as a merc would be to grind your renown and military strength as far as you need, settle all wars you wanted, end the contract - and then meet with Arzagos/Istiana to get the kingdom quest. The independence flag will work fine in this case.
I've noticed there's a difference in the pop-up message you get after leaving as merc and as a vassal. It says "*Clan name* has ended it mercenary contract with *faction name*" in the former case and "*Clan name* has left kingdom of *faction name*" in the latter. Maybe there's a difference in what happens inside of the game's logic as well.

I wonder if this will be ever solved. The first reports of this bug are dated on various forums for like 2 months now (Main quest bug report)
I can't imagine how hard it can be fixing this condition or give us a command that will make clan independent in the console.

Can we get feedback?

I have been informed that this issue is fixed on our development branch and the fix will be implemented with the upcoming patches. Thanks for reporting!

I started my own kingdom before I did the quest. Now the clan independence box is not checked. How do I solve that?
If I finish it it assumes that I have decided to support an existing faction (my own)
